OK. I have never actually seen this fight in all my years of being a boxing fan. Don't ask me how that is possible. It probably isn't. I probably have genuine amnesia. But I have no memory of it. Good. I want you guys to tell me how you saw it. How did Holy perform? Ditto for Moorer. Strategies employed and what of them? What condition were both fighters in (include intagibles - I don't just mean weight and body fat)? How bog was the fight at the time and how much recognition did Holy get for winning. How were both fighters viewed by the end of it? Discuss. And thanks in advance.
Why don't you just watch it? It's available on youtube and on other torrent sites. I figure that it would be better then a bunch of guys telling you about it.
No! I would love your views because I am going to watch it. Trust me, those who want to give their opinions and add context to this for me will. And I will be grateful. They know this.
It was a boxing match for 3 rounds, with Holyfield actually being stunned in round 1 by a counter from Moorer, but Holyfield eventually took over by putting on more pressure and proved too strong for Moorer with his combinations.
It was a very close fight at first for a moment it looked as though Moorer may have Holyfields number again, but then Evander turned it up and starting sending Moorer to the canvas and hurting Moorer with his combos. Its been a while since I have seen it but that is what I remember, its a good fight enjoy. :good
Moorer was pretty fresh off of a surgery, that hindered his ability to train at any real intensity. Whether he would have trained 100% or not no one could say, much as I'd like to lean towards a yes.
Moorer was tuff and holding his own for the first 4 rds, but by round 5, Moorer's luck hit a brick wall......... Holy took charge and bounced Moorer off the canvas like a rubber ball in a kid's school-yard before the fight was stopped in the corner prior to round 9.......... Moorer was kinda' embarrassed / disgraced, while Holy's stock was once again hotter than hell in Nov. 1997......... WORD! MR.BILLbbb
Moorer was also a hefty 224 pounds for the '97 rematch...... Moorer's girth told the story.......... Moorer was MUCH BETTER off at 214 pounds in 1994......... Moorer loved them steak and eggs just too much...... Holy was also 214 back in 1994 and just a pinch heavier by 1997, yet Holy was ripped, prolly juiced like Mr. Universe when he TKO'd Moorer in 1997........ MR.BILL:shock:
During the first encounter, Holyfield was suffering from a congenital heart malfunction which prevented sufficient oxygen from being pumped to muscles and tissues, and an atrial septal defect, cardiovascular deficiencies which were corrected and no longer hindered him in their rematch. Bottom line is that Moorer got extremely lucky in their first meeting, yet still couldn't take out a man who was basically having a heart attack in the ring, in fact got dropped himself in the process, and had to settle for a close majority decision. Considering what was discovered about Holyfield's physical ailments after Moorer I (which temporarily forced him into retirement), Moorer's win has to stand as one of the least impressive title winning performances in heavyweight history. The rematch was a much truer representation of the difference in class between the two. A rubber match would have wiped out any question of Evander's vast natural superiority, and that's partly why Moorer went out of action for three years following their return go. Holyfield scored a total of six knockdowns to Moorer's none in those two bouts, a very fair barometer of their difference in quality. Michael did not have an ATG heavyweight chin. (Dropped by Bigfoot Martin, twice by Bert Cooper, six times by Holyfield, and out cold by Foreman and Tua. He was down 11 times in a span of 20 fights from Martin to Tua.)
Evander seemed to use the heart attack excuse a little too much eh? Didn't he use it against Bowe too? I read Evander's "holyfield way" so i know all about Evander. But a lot of excuses by him and Jim Thomas for all his losses.
The heart issue was utter bull****........ Holy's problem was more so with a torn rotor-cuff on his left side....... Holy looked seriously juiced by the time he regained his title from Bowe in 1993..... Does anyone think Benny Hinn actually cured Holy with faith? That is a total crock right there...... MR.BILL
The 1995 rubber match loss to Bowe was a result of Holy having the flu and battling a fever, etc..... Well, team Holy swore by that back then.......:deal MR.BILL
