[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IcX5eH4QD-0&feature=related[/ame] Here here is looking very talented early on his career. Nice jab, good lateral movement, and seemed to have a lot of pop. Was it just a matter of him not quite being as good as advertised or was he unfulfilled potential?
I think it was a combination of both... He was very talented, but couldn't stay in shape or mentally motivated.. In addition, he looked great against B level opposition, ie... James Tillis, Alfredo Evangelista, Renaldo Snipes, a shot Coetzee, etc...
Holy ****!!! Page looks very good. Wow. That is A level talent right there. I kind of wish a Holmes-Page fight had come off in 1983. Certainly would improve Holmes legacy beating a talent like page instead of marvis frazier. Take a look at Page here [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=paHadzIb8Kk&feature=related[/ame] This guy had the all around talent/tools to be a great fighter. Wow. Such a shame.
Wow how did this guy ever lose? I can't get over how much talent this guy had coming up. He had everything! Top Jab, Great Footwork and Movement, Awesome Skills, Big Power in the right hand, great use of angles/ring savvy. Sick Uppercut. High Workrate. This guy was the complete package.
No, no he wasn't. Typical'80s heavy scene poor Ali clone.Never saw what all the fuss about him as a talent was to be honest.
SuzieQ49, you're pissing me off. What's your damage? Clearly you seem insulted that I've even made thread about former Heavyweight World Titlist, Greg Page, and don't seem to think the words "talent" and "Greg Page" should be uttered within the same sentence. Let's keep thing's in perspective. I wasn't suggesting he was a marvel of any sort, I said he looked like a promising talent as he was coming up, and I was posing the question to more knowledgeable people than myself whether his decline was as a result of him just not being good enough or some other reason like lack of motivation, etc. Your sarcastic bull**** has largely gone unappreciated.
What are you talking about? I wasn't being sarcastic. I'm serious. Greg Page looked like a future great in those 1981 clips shown above. He looked to me like he could do it all. Appeared to be a mental thing which ruined him, because physically he could do it all. You my friend owe me a big time apology. I might suggest some counseling as well, as that tantrum you just displayed for no apparent reason, was frightening. I can't even think of one thing I said in my passage that can be viewed as sarcastic.
Here have a cold one This content is protected It picks ya up. It calms ya down. It's the lifeblood that fuels the dreams of champions!
Holmes would have had all he could handle from Greg Page in 1983. After watching how good Page was in his prime, I wish holmes would have fought him.
Looks **** to me. Ill-timed jab, poor judgement of distance, arbitrary switch-hitting, dodgy balance compounded by needless bouncing around, telegraphs his shots. Reminds me of Anthony Small. Surprised Gil was so positive about him.
