Would Mayweather have these mad PPV numbers if didnt try to be the bad guy?

They'd obviously be lower. Floyd's a great salesman, like him or not.

 

They'd be a little lower, but not much. Are there that many pathetic human beings willing to fork out $50+ on a Saturady evening just to watch someone lose but is probably not going to lose?

I'd like to think people buy Floyd's PPVs because he is a good boxer. It also takes 2 to tango. Floyd's opponents in his biggest PPVs were big attractions too. The "villain" role Floyd plays is a joke. When it comes to getting endorsement deals, the jokes on Floyd. Why did Nike sign a foreigner as their only boxing endorser?

Look at his career at lower weights. He was actually a MUCH more exciting and dominant fighter. Still, he wasn't known like he is now.

Yes for Pac and Oscar. No for Hatton. Hatton is one of those fighters that i find boring and i will watch any fighter Hatton is just painful to watch. He just has a country behind him thats why.

And his numbers would not be as high. We all watch to see him lose. Its human nature to want the villian to lose.

If I am not mistaken, Reebok is a British company. If so, that helps to explain a Khan/Reebok relationship.

 

He has to entertain outside of the ring because he doesn't in the ring (he fought different vs Mosley).

Casual fans won't appreciate his boxing skill and defense. Casual fans enjoy more action fighters. He's got to find a way to draw them in, his persona does that. Although I believe part of his persona is based on reality.

Agreed. You can't have some guy running around acting like a douche bag representing your company, whether it's an act or not. Not a good look

 

I don't know how his numbers would if he was more likable. I do think that boxing as a whole would do better if he were.
I think boxing or for that matter could use a few "guys we love to hate". However I think the best of the best need to be "good guys".
