If not for the mental lapses, just how good could Golota have been?

Now that for a couple of years we've been exposed to HW's that are fat, short, gigantic, monotinous robots, some that can't even jab or know how to throw a good right hand (like R. Bowe), we've accepted that fact that HW's just can't get it done like fighters in a lesser weight division.

Well, incase some of you have forgotten just how incredible a great punching technician Andrew Golota was, how nimble he was on his feet for a huge man...watch this thing of beauty.

he could have held a belt definately. but i seriously doubt he could have been a lineal champ.

 

he was better then Liachowich,Briggs,Valuev belt holders.But with his psyche he wouldt be able to be a real champion

golota was very good , but reminds me of oliver mcCall was a world beater on his day but we dont know which golota is turning up. Naturally more gifted than the klitchko's.

 

With Adamek's mentality he would've been able to overcome everyone, even Lewis. He had size, hard punch, quickness, great footwork, balance, defence, amazing technique and great mobility. Almost everything, almost perfect boxer...

 

I think Golota would have done to Wlad what AG did to Michael Grant. Wlad would not have intimidated Golota & would have gotten dropped with the 1st big right hand.

Its nice to dream in an age where there isn't much to get excited about.

Minus the charge being made by Adamek for a HW Title, of course.

Agreed, nobody worked the genitals quite like Golota.

 

Ok, that's a stretch. Let's not forget Golota was a notoriously slow starter and was extremely vulnerable to be hit in the early rounds. His defence wasn't great at all, more like average. Also, although his condiftioning was top notch, his stamina was a bit off in the later rounds which gave him plenty of problems vs. Bowe and Grant. Even with Adamek's mentality, I don't see Golota as a perfect fighter but do accept he would have given Lewis a run for his money. Not Tyson though. The Tyson that came in to fight that night, was a KO and defensive machine (like in his prime), and the slower Golota was tailor made for him, brain or no brain.

 

A prime Golota, even with zero brains, would have mutilated Valuev. You need to take a look at that Bowe fight once more. Golota had infinitly more skill than Valuev.

 

I don't think his skills were world class. He looked great against a badly faded Riddick Bowe...Okay, what else did he do. He clearly didn't have the pop of Lennox Lewis. He couldnt' dispose of Michael Grant, even though he hit him with everything but the kitchen sink. Lewis got rid of him in two. And he didn't have the skills of Wlad, so I don't think he could have been a consistent champion. Sure, he could have held a belt for a few fights.

Craziness in its purest form. Listen, there's no doubt that Golota was a technically good fighter, but there were many things that he did not do well that didn't have to do with his psyche. First, he was not a huge puncher. He hit Michael Grant with dozens of clean punches and he simply didn't have the pop to finish him. Lewis hit Grant with the same clean punches and almost killed him. He also couldn't get rid of Bowe even though he hit him with barrages of punches for rounds. Not to mention the fact that he didn't have fast hands. He made up for that by throwing crisp, fluid combinations...But the reason he got destroyed by Lewis had little to do with his mental state. It had more to do with the fact that he was simply too slow. Wlad would have also done a paint job on Golota. Although it would have probably taken 6 or 7 rounds, as opposed to 1. He's just much faster, as Lewis was.
