I think RJJ is one of the most entertaining fighters ever. What an amazing athlete who dominated great competion. True, he fought on for way to long, but in his prime he was in a class of his own. A perfect combination of speed, power, and ring generalship. I personally think top 20 ATG P4P. I'm not totally convinced I'm right, but the more I rewatch this guy the more he stands out as a ATG.
top 20 no doubt i think u gotta take a fighters 10 prime yrs and match them up with other atg his fall is so fresh in everybody's mind right now i think people are forgetting how great he was
top 10...seriously this guy was an animal...he could have beat srr at middle weight...people always seem to look at his so called losses(prime?) and use that as a basis for judgement
He gets penalties for not fighting the best at light heavy. He also didn't stick around 168 too long with all the monsters, especially the British ones, that were there when he was. True they were near the end of the runs, but he could've stayed and really tested himself. Instead he moved up to LH where the pool was much more shallow and the hands weren't nearly as heavy. Then while there, he never faced the one guy everyone wanted to see him face. So I don't give him top 10 at all. Maybe top 20 just because of his physical attributes, but I really wonder if that delicate chin he possessed could've have handled the explosiveness of that 168 division that he just barely made a pit stop in.
Please name the best so called lt heavies that he avoided ?It kills me that this argumenet is always rears its head when talking about Jones !
Dariusz Michalczewski Beat pretty much everyone Roy beat at LH, and they never fought. That's a demerit for both of them.
It's an argument Floyd (oops, I mean Roy) earned by not fighting the best opposition available. And the fact that you had to ask tells me you don't know enough about this sport to be commenting. You're just defending your favorite celebrity hero.
I've got him just inside the top 20 based on h2h I can't pick anyone with confidence over Jones from middleweight to lightheavy...Aside from Holyfiel he takes all cruisers as well.
Not above Pacquiao, not above Mayweather, not above De La Hoya. The crash and burn in the latter part of his career puts him no higher than top 60. I know what you're thinking...a lot of fighters fall from grace towards the end of their careers, but Roy didn't do enough in his prime to negate that. People forget how much of a ducker he was in his prime. People forget the quality of the guys he fought so impressively against. Cops, firemen, garbagemen, ballerinas...whatever.
