Who Deserves the Blame for Leonard-Pryor not happening?

    As you see here, the fight fell apart over economic issues (another Legendary Nights myth getting debunked).

    $500,000 is a relative low-ball offer, as Pryor ended up making more fighting Arguello a couple years later. Then again, this was earlier in Pryor's career when he was even less of a name. Pryor made what was then, a career high in 1980, of $50,000 to fight Antonio Cervantes. For comparisons of what other Leonard opponents were making around this time, bigger names like Wilfred Benitez got $1.2 mil and Roberto Duran got $1.5 mil (first bout), while longer-reigning but lesser known champs like Ayub Kalule (like Pryor, not fighting in the same division as Leonard) got $250k.

    So who deserves more of the blame?

    Ray Leonard deserves more blame, he was a master con artist who weight drained his opponents and got to win two titles in separate divisions within one fight and on top of that Leonard also ducked Mike McCallum, Julian Jackson and Michael Nunn. And he had the nerve to low-ball a future Hall of Famer in Aaron Pryor.

    For a guy you say ducked people, Ray fought Duran 2 times, Benitez, Hearns in a 2 year span. Then he fought Hagler. He beat Benitez,Duran,Hearns and Hagler and Leonard ducked people? I will admit later in his career he tried to get people weakened, but this was in the late 80s when he fought Lalonde and Hearns in the rematch. Before that he fought everyone. If Pryor did not get the fight with him it was because Pryor did not move up in weight and make enough noise to make it marketable. If Ray was willing to face Hearns with his right hand and jab, he would have fought Pryor who was smaller and was less of a risk.

    No one can ever accuse Leonard of ducking. It's just dumb. His record speaks for itself.

    As for the thread, if you want you can blame Pryor for not taking the money.

    Ray really just wanted no part of Pryor. Even in the amateurs Ray choose not to fight Pryor and rather move up in weight

    I'm not saying that Ray is ducking anyone it really just didn't make sense financially for him at the time Pryor is always the epitome of a high risk low reward opponent

    Mainly Ray Leonard, but If I was him I wouldn't want to fight someone trained by Panama Lewis either.

    It may have not made financial sense but Leonard still offered Pryor a chance to make ten times more than his previous career high payday.

    Leonard that fought, Duran, Benitez, Hearns, Hagler deserves more blame for him vs Pryor not happening??? :nut And Leonard ducked to fight the fighters such as Mccallum, Jackson, Nunn???? :lol: Stop Benny. Leonard has fought the best and beat the best. His record speaks for itself. He has face and beat 4 future hall of famers of the ones i already mention.
