Michael Watson deserves a mention, but Graham is top.

 

henry whorton, good fighter, had 3 cracks of the whip, just couldent quite pull it of, but a very ecxiting fighter.

 

Obviously he's still ging but Ryan Rhodes?

 

Jim Driscoll and Alan Rudkin. Moreso than Graham.

 

all good ones, watson definatly deserves a mention, gave it everything to become a champ, and as far as im concerned the great man is one, rhodes is not done yet he could be champ by end of year.

 

ive never seen them fight but read a lot about t5hem, driscoll gave big amounts of weight away in fights ibeleive, they say he was a peerless boxer. also alan rudkin was a great boxer of his time, and god bless them both there names deserve to be mentioned along with the champs of their day.

 

sorry for reversing his name,he fought a good fight in n/dakota, with a top world champ whos name i cant get a grip of, crawford could punch.

 

came within a wisker of being champ against willie yorrin, deserves a mention .

 

I have to say fella's, even though i think i could have won if i'd have gotten a shot, i think there are more deserving people who i think it would be fair to say proved they were "beyond doubt" world class, whereas i think i probably was, and beat a couple of world class fighter's and an ex world champion, but never proved it "beyond doubt".
Michael Brodie, Herol Graham, and Michael Watson are 3 who i believe deserve to come before me in the list.:good

 

your record on paper doesnt really tell the story of how good you were....a lot of knowledgeable posters here knew your quality going into the rhodes fight, and they also said you were quality afterwards too...

both hagler and bob foster each commented at the time of their respective fights that the finnegans were their hardest fights...that says a lot i think...

billy hardy was blown out by naz at the end of his career, but if you look further back he was quality...

But anyway the fighter I believe you are thinking of is Virgil Hill, who beat Ashley in 1995. Crawford was brave, but fairly easily beaten from what I remember.

A weight drained Ashley struggled horribly with Michael Nunn a couple of years earlier, these performances IMO, did show Ashley's level.

But on the plus side he was excellent against Nicky Piper and was robbed of a win against the big punching Yawe Davis.

He sucked it up to get off the floor against Tony Booth to win, in a fight where he clearly was near end of his career, and could of easily called it quits.
