It's debatable that a fight between the pair without world titles would sell that amount of tickets.

Plus, there is a lack of credible opposition for them to face. Cleverly has beaten everyone domestically (almost all of them by KO) and Bellew has already knocked over a couple of lesser names with ease, forcing Maloney to cockblock a decent payday for his fighter (McKenzie) and Dilks to drop to 168.

Unless he pushes Cleverly on to title level immediately (which isn't that bad a move actually) I see little point in holding him back without making this fight.

Barring three or four guys (Dawson, Pascal, Cloud.... maybe Johnson) there's nobody in the division that I wouldn't make Cleverly at least an even bet to beat. It's empty, full of old men and needs a boost.

Meanwhile, all Bellew will be doing is feasting on Cleverly's leftovers, unless again Warren throws him in there or he moves up to cruiser, which IMO he will eventually.

Some fights can be deferred, it's a question of timing and what's in the division at the time. Domestically, it's empty, higher up it's full of old men. Fight one of those old men, or make the fight between them!

There isn't really a right or wrong answer, it's a matter of opinion.

I was at Upton Park and there were no more than 10 Australian in the whole place. Trust me.

If some of the people on here were promoters they'd run out of prospects to match against each other in the 6 months of being in business.;)

100% correct. **** all this waiting 12 months ****. One is the C'Wealth champ and the other is the Euro champ. Both are undefeated. That is enough for the fight to happen now. If one loses, who gives a ****. They can rematch after rebuilding.

I know what Fwank wants to do. He probably wants them in some sort of bull**** eliminator for the WBO in 12 months time.

Why would Cleverly want to fight Bellew now? He has the inside track in a world title shot and a Bellew fight isn't a big enough earner for him at the moment to jeopardise that.

There must be some happy medium somewhere.

As for going bankrupt, I'd hardly say they are making a roaring trade right now anyway. Maloney almost went bust last year, Hennessy lost his ITV deal in part because he was putting on **** fights.

If you speculate to accumulate, actually PROMOTE your fighters you are bound to see increased ticket sales and TV interest.

Domestic champ vs fringe top 10 guy supported by ''prospect'' (term used loosely) vs journeyman mismatches isn't going to sell many tickets, and TV aren't really going to be up for it either, other than the bare minimum.

Is there any reason why David Price can't fight Larry Olubamiwo this weekend?

    None what so ever.

I'm not certain that Cleverly, hittable, will beat Murat...oh, of course, he's now fighting Herman Umbongo, the latest in a series of Afrobums. At least Chilemba isn't a completely shocking Afrobum, swings in roundabouts.

You think TV would get behind Bellew-Cleverly if it happened now? It would be tucked away on FNF or on a Kevin Mitchell undercard.

We all want to see good fights but those 2 fighting now does not make sense from Cleverleys angles or Warrens angle. Having them fight when Cleverly is, if all goes to plan, a WBO champ in 18 months is exactly the right thing to do for all concerned.

We don't get to see 2 10-0 prospect fight each other, thats just the way things are done these days. Price will not fight Olubamiwo until he's padded his record out and earned a fee bob. Whether thats right or wrong, its still the way it is.

not sure about him training with the ingles. have they taken on many other established boxers and improved them defensively?

definitely get him over to the states for the experience.

Price has looked unimpressive and been badly managed thus far IMO.

There is no reason and it would actually be f'n interesting. Because Larry could feasibly chin him inside a round or gas and be stopped himself. One of them looks like the lovechild of Triple H and Frank Bruno (but punches with H's technique) and the other ones a Giant.

But, of course, it's just Price vs Sergiy Latvijoke, which isn't going to make him do anything more than go throughthe motions. And the promoters are spending cash paying these guys to hardly break a sweat, and an Eastern European to stand there looking fat, but he probably can't do that right and falls over from a stiff breeze a minute in.

    That's exactly the point.

Why bother spending double the amount of money to bring in some Eurotrash when they can just match the pair.

It's not exactly a risk. Larry has already lost a close one to Daniel Peret (who Fury hammered and Price shut out) - so if Price can't beat Larry it would indicate he isn't going anywhere.

Have it over 8x3's and save the money on the journeymen, increase profit margin while you are at it!
