tbh he isnt a bad opponent but the fact is casa is going to be rusty and is 40 year old vet.

when you are a lighter fighter you age more quicker than a heavyweight would

and there are more deserving fighters for him to fight in the wba top ten

 

I would have preferred for him to rematch Prescott. He'd dispell the notion that he's ducking punchers, it'd represent a fight that he should be able to win comfortably if he fights off the back foot, he'd have a chance to avenge his only defeat in the pro ranks and Prescott has good name recognition in the UK. Therefore the fight should do good numbers.

Because out of any sports fans, people who claim to be boxing fans include some of the dullest twats in the world today.

 

Personally I thought a 145 catchweight fight with Alfonso Gomez would have been fun and more competitive than Casamayor and would do better numbers because of Gomez's considerable fame from the contender tournament.

Not that I ever thought it would happen because it was above the weight, but I still think it would have been fun.

 

No, Casamayor is not known to the casual boxing fan in the UK. Khan is at the stage in his career where he needs another recognised name in order to good numbers. His title fight with Kotelnik was on ppv and did something like 30k buys. He doesn't enjoy the level of stardom that a fighter like Hatton does in the UK. Hatton could come back and fight anyone at lww and he'd almost be guaranteed to do good numbers.

Personally I feel as though GBP have dropped the ball on this one. Regardless of Prescotts recent form, a rematch with Khan would do huge numbers in the UK. All casual fans know of him as the guy who startched Khan within a minute and would be eager to see how a rematch would unfold.

However, as you've stated, it's difficult to be overly critical of Khan as he's taken the fight to stay active and improve further under Roach. I'd be more critical of him if he didn't fight Maidana/Alexander/Bradley/Ortiz later on in the year.

 

Good summary. Still don't think that Casa is a good fight, but at least hes keeping busy. I think the main problem in fights like Barrera and Casamayor is that Khan can then claim to have beaten these great fighters, when really he has beaten shells on the way out.

I would prefer him to fight a much lower class fighter as a tune up, as at least he his not claiming to have done something he hasn't really done, and also not pissing on the grave of a good fighter. The belt doesn't have to be on the line, it can just be a way of getting some rounds under the belt. No point in another 70 second blow out.

Katsidis(spelling) is calling Khan out and is popular in the UK.It seems obvious to me that this should be the keep busy fight and a draw as well.
