If not for the mental lapses, just how good could Golota have been?

And what if the pigs could fly? Golota was visibly nervous days before the Tyson fight (press conference for example) beacuse he simply knew there was no way he could cheat and fight dirty and get away with it. And that scared him. And he quit. Beacuse he's a heartless quitter. But I do wish he wasent such a big coward. I wish he would punch Tyson in the balls. Now that would be entertaining. And one less Polish person walking the earth too.

He could have been a world champion and a legitimate rival for Lewis and Holyfield. He had the size, speed, skills, and power to be a world champion; he just did not really enjoy fighting.

He was good but the low blows to bowe was just stupid. I personalily think Golota wasnt that good. He choke every big fight and Got DQ or Koed out. That beating he got from adamek i know hes old and some say washed up but still he could of done better and that mollo fight was a good one but he should of Koed that overated bum at the time.

I don't think that he didnt enjoy fighting. You don't become a top level boxer, especially in the 90s era without enjoying the sport.

Golotas problem was his susceptability to pressure. Anytime the pressure was up, and the cameras were on him, he would cave in.

If he went into everyfight, with no crowd, no cameras, no pressure, he would be a different fighter... but obviously thats not possible.

Even when he gave interviews for the networks he would nervously stutter his way through them. But if somebody close to him was recording him on a personal camera that nobody was supposed to see he would speak normally.

Golota peaked during the 90s, a period where there were ATGs around, Tyson was past prime but still very formidable especially when he was serious, Lewis was at his peak, and Holyfield while slowing down was still great, and Moorer was there too, those guys were much better, than Fat Peter, Arreola, Valuev, mediocre Chageav etc. The only fighter more skilled would've been Wlad, and as we all know Wlad is not invincible.

Anyone who thinks Golota could've took Tyson that night is smoking some seriously good ****, Tyson was kicking his ass, it was his last performance before he became pathetic (see Nielson fight).

Yep, I never understood how he could **** himself up like that after the Golota fight. Take a year off, gain 20 pounds and fight a fat Danish guy, take almost another year off, fire a great trainer (Brooks) and go into a championship fight with Lennox Lewis still 16 pounds overweight, unprepared and medicated. 2000 looked really good for Tyson and the Golota fight was the hallmark. But what he did after shows he had no real desire to become a champion again. But im glad he gave Golota a good beating nevertheless.

So you think a prime Golota could beat Peter, Arreola, Valuev and Chagaev?

I think so too actually, and its kinda lame to think about it cause 3 of those guys you mentioned were Champions not to long ago....and Golota, unfortunatly, never held a major title. I agree with your views.... I think Golota peaked at the wrong time. Honestly speaking, I think even a guy like Jimmy Thunder could of beaten Arreola.

The 90s was one of the best eras in the HW division....Andrew opened the gates for all the Eastern Europeans but thats pretty much it. Sucks he didnt win a title cause he really was a great physical specimen.

I don't know about that. He seemed like a fighter that wanted to get in there & beat ppl up & he knew he had skills.

Something happened in those Bowe fights that changed him. It happens in sports. You keep climbing up the ladder, improving all the time & then WHAM! Something happens that just causes everything to fall apart.

It happened to me & my tennis game. I started beating quality players in the NJ area, started to advance through local tournaments & all of a sudden, my serve went haywire. Can't explain it...it was just GONE! After that, the rest of my game fell apart. This was in the late 80's.

Very sad & I feel like I know exactly what Golota went through. I can go out & hit with people now & all of my strokes are fine. Just don't ask me to serve. The mental block is still there.

When he unloaded and connected many of his opponents went down.

The thread is about his mental lapses, which is obviously the main reason for his "losses".

You probably haven't seen many Golota fights, if you think K2 are more naturally gifted.

Tyson was not a more gifted puncher than K2.

Yep, I agree. They say boxing is like 90% mental. Add Golota to the picture and there you have it.

Yes, Bowe won and went straight to retirement with brain damage.
