This is a much better fight to pick, I agree. Hamed throwing -- gasp! -- combinations, moving quickly around the ring, and showing off his speed and hunger. Barrera would have had a much tougher time with this version, but even then I think he would win. Hamed's 'hand's down' defence is risky even against average opposition, let alone someone as good as Barrera -- when you leave yourself completely open like that all night, and you're fighting against a height and reach advantage with someone who is just as fast as you are, then you're in major trouble, no matter how good your reflexes are. Hamed would certainly have made things interesting if he had fought Barrera during the time of the Robinson match, though.
A prime Naz whilst he was with Ingle would have beat MAB, you only have to look at the documentary "big fight little prince" or whatever its called to see that he didnt take the fight seriously, he was more worried about the gloves and getting his hair cut, plus he was getting beat by his sparring partners at the time aswell. Plus you had Manny trying to change his style and Suarez just being Naz's yes man, lets face it, when Naz was with Ingle he was a beast and would have beat MAB.
Naz was P4P one of the biggest, if not the biggest, one-shot power punchers in the history of the sport. The idea that Barrera would go 20-0 against him is laughable.
dont forget though barrera coulda turned it up aswell we had just seen what he could do against morales in their first fight
Barerra still would have beaten him, but I have to say after watching his entrances to his fights I forgot about how much of a showman he was as well as a great fighter.
A better title for this thread would've been "My logic is distorting my what i want to believe about my hero Naz, someone help me reassure myself that he was somehow better than the guy who completely dominated him.
Stop to consider the competition he KO'd, the best was probably Kevin Kelley. If you want to believe that dispite Barrera totally shutting him down, he'd still manage to land a lucky shot in the course of 20 fights so be. It doesn't change the fact what so ever that Barrera exposed him as a poorly rounded fighter who was dependent on punching power to win. What Barrera did to him that night he would do over and over again because Naz wasn't even in his class. Put Naz in there with any ATG featherweight and he would have gotten owned the same if not worse.
Barrera beat Naz convincingly, but it wasn't the total beatdown some claim. Hamed won 4 rounds and that shows he was competitive on the night. A hungry and focussed Naz would only be more competitive.
plus, Barrera wasn't even required to call upon his legendary return of fire, hit immediately when hit Mexican fighting spirit, as per El Terrible battles, as Naz rarely hit him & certainly nothing sustained. Barrera wasn't wobbled, as far as i remember, so was fighting well within himself. An improved or 'peak' Naz would only then start troubling Barrera enough for us to see B fight back with more offensive combos & could easily have resulted in more KDs possibly a KO for Barrera. For those that counter this with Barrera coming forward was exactly what Naz wanted & would allow for certain KO of Barrera - pah.
Naz via KO if barrera was the one who had to travel. Btw barrera amongst others wanted nothing to do with naz until he saw naz was on the slide FACT. Naz should have dusted himself down and rematched barrera in england. Naz was capable of beating anyone because of his power and good chin even pacman or morales. His speed and timing just wasn't there against barrera and i don't think that was down to barrera more so down to the travel and change of trainer and just being that little bit slower.Barrera was just sharper naz looked a shadow of himself in there. I think the occasion got the better of naz too notice how he didn't do his usual rope flip.
you cant be serious? he was in the division below and moved up because he was given the opportunity because naz wanted nothing to do with marquez or morales
Naz is the sort of fighter where I dont even care how good he was compared to other boxers and who he would, and would not beat. He is my favorite fighter just because of the way he was and the pure entertainment he brought to the sport. People should not try to make themselves feel better by speculating things. I dont like fighers because of how good they are compared to others, and I dont think other people should worry about things like that either. Naz should just be rememberd for what he was. One of the most entertaining natural talents of all time. Simple. **** his loss to Barrera, Barrera was better than him that night plain and simple, it does not affect the fact ill always still prefer Naz.
