People are getting carried away with this win, Foreman was the weakest 154lb titlist by a long stretch, inexperienced, no power, not even much of a jab and just not very good at all. Foreman got a decentish win against a way past his prime Santos, who himself was the weakest titlist. But Santos was shut out years before by Dzinderuk years before and many thought Margarito got the better of him in their fights when he was in his prime. Bottom line is Foreman hadn't proved much at 154lbs, he never looked particularly impressive and was there for the taking

I predicted a Cotto win and said he should hang them up if he loses to someone of Foreman's level. I'm glad for Cotto he's had a resurgance but this doesn't mean he has a chance against the 154lb/147lb big boys

Cotto is ready for the taking at 154lbs, he looked slower than ever, didn't hadn't made any technical changes and at this stage is probably too old to make any. He'll now be fighting bigger skilled men like Dzinderuk, Williams, Martinez or someone like Margarito/Pacquaio who have already dominated. Any 1 of them beats him pretty easily and Cotto hasn't looked impressive since the Gomez fight in 2008

Great post, I agree 110%. Cottoe is toast if he faces a Kirkland, Bertoe, or Spinks.

To be fair many people picked Foreman to easily UD Cotto who had just come off a beating against Pac, where he threw everything he had. Whilst Foreman wasn't the strongest champion this was a new weight and he was coming off a loss with a new trainer. To say it doesn't mean much is unfair on Cotto. He looked good last night and it was a good win. Not great, but good nonetheless.

I picked him to dominate Foreman, people who picked Foreman overrated Foreman assuming he must be good because he had a belt

Its a decent enough comeback win for Cotto but no it just doesn't mean a whole lot. Ryan Rhodes would have beat Foreman to, wouldn't mind seeing Ryan in with Cotto, won't happen though

They also picked him because they thought stylistically he would have the tools to UD Cotto.

He fights small with little/no jab and has no power and isn't too hard to hit, they were emphatically wrong

ofcourse not but it shows us cotto after a vicious loss still has something, alot of people thought he was so shot that even foreman would beat him up.

In hindsight, yes they were, but it was the perception leading up to the fight that Foreman would win. Hence, in my opinion I wouldn't state that the win "doesn't mean much".

Foreman is basically a junior middleweight version of Paulie Malinaggi. He'd give any novice boxer trouble, but against A level fighters he'll always lose.

You have never seen Yuri fight? He doesn't use a jab and he only has eight knockouts. Him getting hit had more to do with Cotto's great jab than his boxing ability. The Jab was the only punch Cotto was landing. His hooks was missing because of Yuri's movement. It wasn't until the knee injury than Cotto was able to land his hooks.

I think the bright lights and the atmosphere got to him. He looked very nervous, he throws way more punches than that.

He probably would have given Cotto a better fight if he wasn't so nervous and he didn't injure his knee.

The win was good for Cotto. But I disagree that he didn't show any improvement. His jab was better and so was his footwork.

Mate i reckon you need to look at what sport you trying to analyze, maybe you should look into something else rather then boxing.

1st. Foreman is a very credible opponent, its just the style foreman had wasnt correct on someone like cotto.

2nd. Cotto looked a different boxer, he was fighting at 5.7 not 4.3, his jabs had more power on them, combinations were better and his movement has improved.

3rd. Cotto yes had the tendancy to go back to his old habits but he is definetly an improved fighter plus he has only lost to great boxers lets not forget.

4th. Now he will develope further and come back even better. STeward will make sure of it.

Cotto had some of the same problems, but he confirmed certain things that were being doubted.

It's fair to say that a loss would have retired Cotto, but this was a dominante win - he lost only one round on my scorecard, and adjusted beautifully after the fourth to win the fifth.

I disagree that he made no technical adjustments if we are lowing adjustments to mean a return to form over certain issues (the jab for example, which he was able to double-up on a mobile opponent) and I thought he looked pretty ****ing light on his feet, especially in the sixth.

Given that his father died, his trainer/uncle and he bust up, he took a terrible beating in his last fight, I thought it was an excellent performance. He still has problems getting set/off, but what else is new?

I does mean much, this is a bigger victory for miquel than pac or floyds last one.
\it also means cotto is back! he can choose a hell of a lot opponents to fight.
    williams,pac,floyd,cintron,margarito,chavez jr, martinez,spinks.
    Its gonna be awesome
