Telling Foreman over and over to "suck it up" I would like to see him fight with that injury. He'd be sobbing. Seemed to me he wanted to see Yuri hurt bad.

Mercante understands that fighters fight. They don't come in the ring looking for a way out.
If you guys were really up in arms you would be petitioning to never let Steve Smoger referee ever again.

Mecante does come across as a *****. The type of person I would enjoy hurting.

Foreman, by sucking it up, went from "HE'S A ***** LOOKING FOR AN EXCUSE" to "WHAT A WARRIOR"

in about 10 seconds. Mercante understands that.

I think Mercante is horrible. I dont know why he is so well respected. They should have allowed Smoger to the do the main event.

Mercante earned my respect and SMoger always had my respect .

Why does the East Coast have the best refs? I mean Vegas only has one good one and that is Bayliss.

He is a old school referee. He lets fighters fight it out and doesn't like it when they whine. But yeah in some cases like the video, he was probably thinking that he was going down any minute now by himself so he hesitated too much. As for yesterday, we have seen boxers like Cintron that sometimes looks for a way out, so a referee has to be tough and tell them to suck it up, so he can get a reaction from the boxer himself.

But we are all human. I think Merchante jr. is one of the better referees because he is old school and lets fighters fight.

are you seriously a moron? he gave the fighter the choice to quit and the foreman chose to fight, not let his his corner quit for him....thats respectable these days instead of letting an undefeated champion go out and get his first loss like that.....are you that much of a ***** to where it bothers you to see a guy at least try for another round or the rest of the round? go watch another sport if that really bothers you , you big baby :|

I thought the ref done well last night.

he gave Foreman every opportunity, sadly he just couldn't take it.

I had no problems with what Merchante did last night. This is the fight game, you're supposed to suck things up you bunch of pansies... and I do think he's one of the best referees in the game. Although I could do without all the shouting. He seems to try and get involved all the time. He doesn't quite interrupt the action every 25 seconds like Kenny Bayless does, but he's somewhere in between.
