Smoger is one of the best referees ever. However, I noticed he was alittle too slow last night. He is getting old and has gained some weight. He was in the fighter's way a few times last night. Cotto and Foreman were moveing faster than the other two guys. Not disrespecting Smoger, but I did noticed that last night
I don't think the ref should be telling a fighter to "suck it up" and "walk it off" because it makes it harder for the fighter to retire and not be slayed for it. Sometimes fighters need to retire. Anyone who doesn't understand that doesn't care for fighters' health. The ref shouldn't be influencing the decision to quit. No fighter takes that choice lightly but carrying on fighting like Foreman did is just stupid. He was behind on points, isn't a big puncher and facing a dangerous guy without footwork. The ref should give him space to make his decision, not influence him with "Suck it up."
My favourite referee! Fighters are fighters, we often describe them as "warriors". It was a good stoppage on his part too.
Mercante Jr is an arrogant douchbag, he should not be a ref after he letting that guy in 2001 die in the ring. He does not look for the fighters safety hate him
Mercante said that he can't stop the fight because the fighters are in the middle of exchanges. That is what the audience came to see, according to him. I'm not sure though if he can overrule the decision of the corner to stop the fight. The fighter wants to fight but his corner doesn't want it anymore, who will have more weight?

foreman had 0 chance to win after the injury. letting the fight continue was just asking for him to be seriously hurt.

Next time he refs and a fighter is down, why doesn't he just tell them to "get up and fight like a man" instead of starting the count? Total BS, his license to referee should be revoked. Yuri fought bravely but he was in serious danger because he could not move or punch because his leg was gone. He could have been badly hurt, and there was no need for it to continue. Cotto would give him a rematch.

If Foreman quite because of that they'd be about 50-60 threads calling him a faker and a *****. Mercante did the man a service by allowing him to prove his worth because now everyone respects him and don't have a bad word to say about him...oh and most importantly, Foreman didn't come remotely close to getting badly hurt. ...Suck it up babies.
