Yuri was nervous in the first 2 rounds. He has excellent stamina, he was taking over the fight when his knee went off. Cotto should have been admitting he won the fight cuz Yuris knee blow up so he couldnt stick to his game plan
Taking over the fight? He had mixed it up with Cotto a little more. That's it. Cotto was clearly still landing the harder, more effective shots. Foreman made him eat a few rights, it was hardly taking over the fight.
Its amazing how we had so many people say Cotto was going to get outbox, by the much taller and longer Yuri. That Manny didn't fight him for a reason. Now Cotto outboxes the guy that was suppose to outbox him, used his amazing jab, his footwork look better, he look more relax, he stalk his opponent and ended the fight with a left hook. If you didnt see anything good in that fight, then my friend your just another bias fan and not a fan of boxing.
i was worried about cotto in the fight...the whole moving up in weight thing, and getting put in against a mobile guy the problem is, we, as fans, have had very limited exposure to foreman, and he was a bit of an unknown after seeing the fight, it's easy to see how he was just not in the same class (cotto is world class with a world class trainer) foreman hung in there, but the real threat to cotto was never getting KOed, but getting out boxed foreman was in over his head, but that being said, cotto taking 9 rounds to KO a guy who relies on movement, and has no power, is not going to convince me cotto is the old cotto (and add to it, the "mobile" guy had a bum knee for 1/3 of the fight) it's nice to see cotto with a belt, but until he actually gets a real fight, i'll withhold my opinion
Cotto was winning almost every round up to the knee incident, Yuri maybe won 1 round. Only thing that the knee thing do was end the fight quicker but the same man would have won.
I didnt like his performance, he lost his killer instinct, his hunger, and that was pretty much noticeable last night, i think he didnt attack too much, i didnt see good combinations, and he got caught a couple of times by foreman, i think if it wasnt for that accident, Yuri would´ve pulled out a SD.
ARE YOU SERIOUS!!!!!!! did you not see the end of the 6th round? Yuri's corner should be glad his knee gave out, at least now they have an excuse... Yuri on the other hand showed he was a great champ just didnt have the caliber just yet
That's fair. I'd agree to an extent. Although, I see no shame in Cotto not KOing Foreman. The guy is a tall and mobile, acclimated to the weight class which Cotto is new to. When fighting defensively as Foreman did for much of the fight a guy like that will be hard to KO.
Not happening cotto was dominating that fight with or without the injury, foreman had one good round and cotto came right back the next round and took it from him, and cotto didnt "lose" that killer instinct he is finally learning how to stick to a gameplan wit emmanuel
I saw a slight improvement from Cotto in this fight from previous fights, his footwork is def better. He cut off the ring very well from a speed boxer and he was timing foreman's jab pretty well. The only thing that wiill give him trouble is how easy it is for him to get cut. I had Cotto winning this by decision which is what probably would have happened if Yuri hadn't gotten hurt. As good as Foreman is Cotto is still an elite fighter, yeah in THEORY Yuri was supposed to win but I never thought so. Anyway next fight I would like to see is Foreman/Angulo and Cotto/Martinez
100% agreed, I hate how before the fight everyone was saying that cotto couldnt stick to a gameplan and then when he does do it (like he did last night) people give him **** for it
It was a good performance by Cotto, He proved that he still not to be counted out as damaged goods. I think he will improve ever more under Manny's direction and his jab is still rock hard, love that jab.
