The figures the likes of Audley and Khan get shows that if a boxer is marketed properly and the general public get to know him then people will watch them fight. Fighters profiles aren't built up enough in this country.

    Agreed.

They are bracketed together as ''The Olympians'' or whatever. Give them identities, make people want to know who they are!

Boxing fans shouldn't worry too much about ITV, they aren't interested in anything other than talent shows these days. They've already got rid of The Bill, it's only a matter of time before it gets rid of Emmerdale and Coronation Street to pay for Simon Cowell and his latest shower of **** TV show.

Just checked out the viewing figures for ESPN and they make for an interesting read. Boxing has done well for ESPN with their short stories supprisingly.

    ESPN
    10/01/2010 Boxing Short Stories 14,000 #7
22/01/2010 Boxing Short Stories 75,000 #7 (FREE TRIAL WEEK)
    13/02/2010 Boxing Short Stories 12,000 #10
    19/02/2010 Boxing Short Stories 29,000 #6
    16/03/2010 Boxing Short Stories 20,000 #7

I feel they are the way to go if you are looking for a network to have more Boxing. Whenever they don't have the Premier League their figures are ****ed and from next season on they will lose something like half of their games.

These are the last figures that came out w/e 23/5

These are the figures for ITV from the last two weeks. Wouldn't it be nice if they could fit in a sports programme that did 300,000.

Just in case people are wondering what Sport's outdo Boxing on occasion. Then I can tell you that the Tour de France did better than Boxing the two times figures could be compared, Blue Square Premier did better on Setanta, Premier League Darts does better, Cricket especially T20 does better. So there is a reason that Boxing doesn't get much coverage unfortunately.

Well, to be fair you have to take timing into account. Blue Square matches started at 7.45, the majority of Setanta's boxing wouldn't have started until well after midnight.

Trust me, mate, around the time I joined there were loads of petitions, threads and campaigns to try and drum up interest in boxing and I was one of the people who got excited with ignorance about it all. After some initial success in terms of numbers who signed the petitions and coverage the campaigns got (national papers were reporting on the interest as well, believe it or not), it fizzled out and lost momentum as it was obvious that no matter how much effort was put in, TV companies just don't give a ****. That said, it was during the height of the recession as well.

Not directly mind but in a comparison in the same week.

    w/e 19/7/09
    Cleverly-McIntosh 406,000

Which was the best figures Boxing got on ITV whilst Fat Mick was promoter. In that same week Tour de France Highlights got

    19/7 19:00 315,000
    18/7 19:00 340,000
    17/7 19:00 544,000
    16/7 19:00 462,000
    15/7 19:00 597,000

    w/e 22/7/07
    Maccarinelli-Braithwaite 333,000

    22/7 292,000
    20/7 354,000
    19/7 362,000
    18/7 364,000
    17/7 421,000

Boxing also got outdone by Isle of White TT or something like that. My point Boxing does well but let's not make it out to be pure gold because if it was then we wouldn't have so few dates on TV.

Having had a look at the figures myself nothing major just a little cursory glnce at some channels and dates i would say that boxing on Sky Sports probably deserves a weekly boxing hour

I couldn't agree more they have four channels and they have a weekly show for almost every single one of them, I'm sure they could fit it in somewhere.

I am aware of and have seen some of the petitions and attempts made and i dont expect some tv exec to see my email and go "JESUS CHRIST!!! wrimc hs a point ere bout this boxing malarky!" We do need to be the thorn in the side and apathy just perpetuates the situation if you cant be arsed writing letter or email or forwarding one how do expect tv companies to think you will be arsed to tune in if they do put boxing on i know i am being a bit idealist but if the hrdcore dont show interest then the casuals have no chance

Does anyone know what kind of figures the tv contracts are signed for as I said earlier I know how much all the US shows pay but can never find a source for UK figures. I have heard rumours of six figures which if true is a joke because the quality of FNF and the Big Fight Live for the most part are horrible.
