I am probably the greatest athlete to ever box.

I ran the 100 yard dash within 0.3 seconds of the world record at the time.

I put the shot within 13 inches of the world record at the time.

    I became a ranked boxer.

    Who am I?

Bill Nieder is the greatest athlete ever to box. He was a silver medalist and world record holder in the shot put.... and was KO'd in 1 in his first and only professional match. Might also be the strongest individual to participate in boxing...

I would still argue Powell's achievement's are greater overall, to run that close to the world record in the 100m AND be that close to a shot-put WR. Cheers for the trivia though.

Laugh all you guys like, but "Robinson, Ali, Leonard and Perny Whitaker" in their primes were naturally the most gifted that I've seen..............

Evander Holy just MIGHT be the hardest worker ever.?.?

Powell and Nieder were contemporaries. Powell was a tremendous athlete, no doubt. Nieder put the shot 66 feet about 8 better than Powell but Powell played pro football, had decent speed (9.6 100 yard dash is great for his size) and was drafted to play baseball. Nieder was animal, famed for holding a 300 lb. barbell at arms length...

And Powell could certainly box a better boxer.... but you and I might have been, also.
