I thought Foreman was doing well, and that he might have even been ahead before the injury. I was watching it on a foreign telecast, think it was Polish, so I simply just watched the action. Found it surprising all the mad props Cotto was getting on ESB after and pretty much the consensus being he was winning easily. Guess I underestimated the impact of Lampley and HBO nuthugging Cotto.

:bart The scorecards weren't even close at the time of the stoppage. Cotto was outlanding Foreman all night, the only two meaningful shots Foreman landed were a couple of right hands.

Before the injury I believe the scores were 4-2 in Cotto's favor. Anyway, I was watching it on a small stream and it appeared to me Foreman was slightly busier, but his punches were weaker than Cotto's. Though neither fighter was doing too much. Cotto may have been winning, but It didn't look like the great performance it's being portrayed as. I'll have to watch it on a normal sized screen.

So you couldn't see what was happening basically. Anyway, the judges had it 5-1 twice and 4-2. Two rounds in Foreman's favour is basically giving him the benefit of the doubt in the third as well, I'd expect for closing strongly.

The reason it's impressive is that Cotto was using his positioning to let him get his shots off. Not bulling in or standing in front of his guy and trying to slug with him, but stepping off and fighting from the angles.

It was a masterful performance. Unless you're Michael Marley and don't know how to score a fight.

It's one thing to MAYBE somehow give Yuri 3 rounds. But 5? That's a sick joke.

    4-2 Cotto was my card.

I'm still waiting to hear the actual damage Foreman did to his leg. He looked like he was in pain and bothered by the injury, but I have been looking and can't find an injury update on him. He said after the fight that it was an old injury and I have seen him fight with the brace before, but because of the way he was limping around and because of the amount of credit people are desperately trying to take away from Cotto I'm very curious to hear what if any "new" injury was sustained. If anyone has heard I would be grateful to hear.

I am sure they will release that info soon. I am curious to know the exact type of injury myself.

    1. you have to consider yury moves alot and is much taller than cotto and yury don't make it easy for anybody.
    2. Cotto isn't use to fighting standing straight up and his gloves in a lower defencive position. you can clearly see cotto's loyalty to manny. Next time around Cotto will use that style much better cause it will start coming in more naturally. soon enough he won't be making those bad habits he had before manny started training him.

Foreman fought well...actually fought better with the injury where he had to fight.

Cotto was out boxing him so his only chance was to fight.....of course he couldn't win that way either. But Yuri is a good fighter. Cotto is just better.

I thought Foreman was way ahead on all the cards up until the start of the 1st round! Then it was all Cotto! :hat

Actually except for the 3rd or 4th round, whoch Foreman put in the best round of the fight, I do agree with with you. It forced him to use his hand speed and sit on his punches more.

So overall, yes, I am with you.....

    Update on injury

Former junior middleweight titleholder Yuri Foreman will undergo reconstructive ACL surgery and have torn cartilage removed from his injured right knee on Friday, manager Murray "Schpipples" Wilson told ESPN.com on Tuesday night.

Foreman injured the knee when it gave out on him and he tumbled to the canvas during the seventh round of his first title defense against Miguel Cotto on Saturday night in the first fight at Yankee Stadium in 34 years.

Wilson said Foreman's surgery will take place at NYU Medical Center.

"They're going to rebuild Yuri's ACL and take out the cartilage, basically give him a brand new knee," Wilson said.

Foreman was hobbling on the knee throughout the eighth round, when trainer Joe Grier threw in the towel in an effort to stop the fight. However, referee Arthur Mercante, the only man with the official authority to stop the bout, made an unusual call by ignoring the corner's request -- even though the ring had filled with corner people and officials who assumed the bout was over.

Foreman, a rabbinical student and the first Orthodox Jew in more than 70 years to hold a world title, told Mercante he wanted to continue and order was eventually restored before Cotto went on to stop Foreman with a body shot in the ninth round and claim a world title in his third weight class. But Foreman's heart gained him a lot of fans.

"We've been getting messages and e-mails from people from all around the world who were impressed with Yuri's heart," Wilson said. "I'm very proud of Yuri with the way he fought. I think he'll come back better than ever."

Wilson said the doctor said Foreman would be out for about six months.

"He told Yuri, 'In six months, you'll be able to sit down on your punches and your knee will be stronger than it ever was.' He'll have more power because he'll be able to sit down on his punches better and have more leverage," Wilson said. "The doctor said, 'In six months, you'll be ready to rumble.' In four months, he should be able to walk around without a problem and exercise, but it's probably six months to fully recover. We're talking about maybe a fight in February.

"Yuri's spirits are very good now. He has his head held high. The kid was in the fight. He knew it was just an unfortunate accident, but this kid don't want to quit."
