Lots of people commenting on the scores in the Sylvester/Karmazin fight at the weekend, but almost everyone seems to be on the wrong track. Lots of people commenting on the fact that the fight was in Germany (OMG, impossible to get a decision in Germany, etc), but overlooking the fact that the judge who scored the fight for Sylvester by an unexplainable margin was American. He didn't suddenly become German when his transatlantic flight touched down! And when we look at fights where incomprehensible scorecards have been handed in, so often we find that the judge in question hails from the USA. Gale Van Hoy's scorecard in Malignaggi v Diaz is absolutely inexplicable. I didn't consider Williams v Martinez a robbery, but the controversy was mainly created by the scorecard filled in by Pierre Benoist of New Jersey. Funeka Guzman, another close fight which most saw as either a draw or narrow Guzman win. But the decision was swung by another New Jersey judge, Joseph Pasquale, who somehow managed to find eight rounds for Guzman. Location can swing a close fight in favour of the home fighter or champion. Of course judges are human and can be influenced by a fighters status or the cheers of a crowd. Often a fight can be reasonably scored over quite a wide range of scores. Close fights going for a home fighter happen all over the world, no more so in one location than another. But the real problem is scorecards that bear no relationship to the fight that has taken place. And these scorecards seem to so often be submitted by an American judge :think
The judge knows to get all the hospitality and possibly bribes, he has to give favour to the hometown fighter
You don't get it. Where the judge is from doesn't mean ****. So many times after a robbery fan point to the judges and say "This can't be a hometown decision, look where there from!" But it doesn't matter if the judge is from Sweden or Calcutta, who do you think appoints them? The commisions do, and a lot of the commisions are in the pockets of certain promoters. The commisions know which judges will give the "right" decision, either because they are pocketing bribes or because they want more work. A judge that scores things against the hometown fighter might not be allowed to come back to judge another fight. Wake up.
It´s easy, everytime a Sauerland fighter wins a fight, the American judges are corrupt Sauerland Americans. :good
Well that might be true. But it still begs the questions as to how so many of the judges that the commissions know will give the 'right' decision are American. Are they more susceptible to bribes?:huh
No, it hardly begs such a question. Your question is stupid. I don't know what kind of agenda you're on but the correct question if you care at all about boxing is how do we stop these corrupt commisions and promoters.
IBF is also based in New Jersey. Funny how that keeps cropping up. So, where can we start looking for enforcement?
