Mercante jr is a piece of crap, the only people who think he is any good are the hard core Cotto fans. They know the guys is on them side. mercante would not feel any bad if a fighter gets hurt or killed in the ring, just like caused by his mistake letting Beethowen Schotland fighting, he guy passed away. After he said it was not his fault, he guys was injured before and wanted to keep on fighting His calling of his father was tasteless, in the light that cottos father just passed away too Piece of **** guy
Sadly not.The guy should never have refereed another fight in his life after his incompetence in the scottland bout and many others.He's there because of his name and connections.

I think Mercante Jr. is an idiot. I've seen a lot of fighters take extra punishment or Mercante count to 10 over a guy who was obviously out cold rather than get out of the way so the docs can make sure the guys is okay. Terrible ref and a bad ethnic stereotype, with his wannabe tough guy act. He reffed the Bethoven Scottland fight where Scotland took way too many blows and died so he is no good and shouldn't ever be allowed to refereee. His father was a good referee but he's garbage, very tough with someone else's health.
Better than most. Honestly, most refs are absolute **** so guys like Smoger, Caiz Jr., Bayless, Nady, Merchante Jr., etc are the cream of the crop. All world class refs with multiple title fights underneath their belt. They all have their controversial decisions, but to call them "terrible" or "the worst ref in the game" shows your ignorance.
I like how he handled the fight. He's got some balls and is on our side (the fans). Got to respect that. And boy does that mother****er love new york.
He said that to yuri to get him fired up. He knew foreman wanted to continue, and wanted to encourage him to throw it all on the line. He wanted yuri to do something crazy like we all did. I doubt he meant that literally.
After the other night I don't think this guy should ever referee a fight again. As soon as he saw Foreman limping that should've been it-fight over, scorecards. I couldn't help wondering if he had a bet on.
