Quite funny if it's not the hyped/"official"/major boxing region fighter, people so easily assume his comments might be lies and along come the theories.

Hopefully everything gets sorted out, because Maidana is one of the true fans' fighters, doesn't talk trash or brave through the media like most of his rivals, but steps into the ring no matter where, when and against who. That's why it'd be such a great story to see this underdog come out on top.

i feel sorry for maidana.. but what's important now is that he was able to fire his promoter, recompose himself and challenge dlh and goldenboy by coming out with an open statement..

we all should realize that all it takes is an open letter for a promoter's career to be wasted and integrity to be dissolved.. so promoters must refrain from being too greedy as the public tends to side more often with the fighter and rightfully so..

Well, given that he's been fleeced by his manager for so long I think it's a given that he didn't write the letter, probably his lawyer or the new team he has dealing with him but I don't doubt this is his words.

Nothing wrong with getting someone a bit more articulate than you to write a letter for you.

I hate to see managers taking credit and money from the man who really take the risk and got the guts to go in the ring

Not necessarily. All I'm saying is that if Maidana didn't write the letter, then who did? And if we don't know who did, then how do we just sit here and accept this story are completely true? Maybe this letter is full of lies, maybe it's simply Team Maidana's spin on the events that have transpired. From my perspective, I'm not going to automatically assume that this letter is absolute truth when it contains so much clever and manipulative language.

According to who? How do we know he's been getting fleeced? Is it because his new manager made such claims in a letter?

It's an age old story. He should sign with Don King.

That's your own personal spin on the issue. I gave a detailed explanation as to why I have questions concerning the letter. None of you guys know anything about Maidana. All of a sudden some letter comes out of nowhere, that it doesn't even seem like he wrote, and we're all supposed to believe it? Didn't Maidana sit back and let all the boxing fans eat up a lie about his back being injured? Where was his open letter when these lies were being spread?

why retire? dump the manager, find a new one, and then fight bradley or khan.

Given his description of events, it seems plausible to me ... I can complete understand that position of a guy having the running of things and not making you aware of what's happening. Some people are not cut out for running their own affairs, Maidana is probably one of them.

I'll go on my gut instinct on this one that his manager was using him, he has already stated in his letter that he's willing to fight Bradley or Khan for the terms agreed with his former manager ... but not the fabricated offer that was being reported back to him by his manager.

He isn't looking for more money, he's looking for a fairer share of the money he was offered and a say in who and when he fights.

If you were Maidana and learned who your next opponent/bout was from the internet. You would be pissed too.

Well if we believe this letter, Maidana doesn't even know if he's got a contract with GBP or not. We do no that he said previously that he didn't want to fight Khan yet as his manager had advised him to let it build up for another couple of fights. We know that he hasn't enforced his mandatory. And we know that Khan has said that he wants the fight.

You could be on to something. King seems to get along well with Non-AA, I've not heard one accuse him of thievery.
