I know what you mean about punching ..I was in the same boat until I was taught proper technique .Foot work is everything ..And as far as the being born with speed my trainers are adament about being born with it ..I mean look at the fastest fighters ever im sure all boxers are taught on how to imrpove it but it may well be just a God given gift for some .

That's the assumption, but I question that practice to be honest with you. Hasim Rahman got into weight training in the middle of his career and began lifting weghts with neck. I even saw him training his neck to the lead up to the Lennox Lewis fight and we all know what happend there. All it took was one clean shot and rahman was gone and his chin has never really improved or been any good in the first place.

Punchers are born, when my son was 2 year old I was play boxing with him and I looked away and he popped me on the nose and busted it in front of my friends. I was so proud. But now he is 5 years old and punches like a ****ing mule. He is a very big 5 year old, he is about the same size alot of 10 year olds. I had big power too when I was fighting, maybe genetic?? But at 6'2" and 225 lbs power is kinda a given (Zuri Lawrwence excluded, don't get that ****??) I am older now and about 255 and when I hold the pad to my body and let my son crack me he actually moves my mass, it is cool to me but my wife doesn't approve. All I did was show him how to place his feet and throw across his body and he could crack. He only weighs about 55 lbs and is tall, when he hits something that won't budge his own power throws him back on his ass, it is funny as hell. I am trying to teach him balance so he can recover after landing his bomb. This stuff is just genetic, I didn't teach him to be "tough" he just always was. I pop him on the chin when playing with him pretty hard and it just makes him hit me harder instead of crying/ quitting. Once again I didn't "teach" that it was just there. Chin is mostly mind I beleive now. I am saying this because I beleive you are just born with the tools, he is 5 and was just always like he is now. Will he become a boxer?? I doubt it, he likes football and basketball more. He can fight but he doesn't like actually hitting other kids. He is bigger so noone picks a fight or gives him a reason and bullying is NOT an option in my home. He only likes pounding on me........the little *******.....lol. I have to say GENETICS!!!!!!!!!!!!! Fighters and punchers are BORN, whether they realize it at a young age or not until they are older. If I would have never fought or be a boxing fan I would have no idea that he punches like a mule this young. GENETICS!!!!

Just got back and scrolled down the thread. Interesting that quite a few of you feel strongly that hand speed and power can be improved with proper, diligent training. My guess is you're counting on that as young boxers, that you're the exception...'n I hope you are.

This may burst your bubble, but in my over 65 years in the game watching the best fighters in the world train, never seen an amateur or pro increase hand speed or punching power. If you're a singles hitter comin' in, that's what you'll remain; and if you're a home run hitter on day one -- no matter how clumsy -- you'll always have the eraser. Your combinations will be more fluid -- not faster - with practice.

The good fighters learn to accept it and adapt.

As far as sex sapping legs: it's an old wives tale. Many world records in different sports have been broken after marathon sex the night before.
What does drain a guy is all-night pub crawling to get laid.

i remember dundee saying if it's a stable gf or wife then it's no big deal but if it's a girl that your hot and bothered by then it messes you in the head. is this kronk fighter a big time fighter, and was he trained by manny steward?

a truth in boxing, not training related, that i can't accept, is the fact that margarito didn't use anything illegal against cotto.
