Jack Johnson was the REALLL deal. He was badass. Those 70s guys better watch out. Johnson had size, strength, speed, power...and his defensive skills were some of the best in history.
Jimmy Young would have been undefeated were he around in Johnson's time. Not even Marvin Hart would beat him.
You, sir, will be sent to re-education camp, where you will learn undersized fist twirling carnival performers and Mario-mustachioed fat drunks had a science heretofore and never again realized.
Guys smaller than him? Like who, Klondike - 210 lbs, Fred Russell 6 4 250 lbs, Denver Ed Martin 6 3 200lbs, Sam McVey 200-220 lbs, Joe Kennedy 6 2 - 200-220, Sandy Ferguson 6 3 220, Jim Jefford 6 4 200, Victor McLaclen 6 3 195, Tony Ross 5 9 210, Al Kaufman 6 1 200, Jim Jeffries 6 3 220, Battling Jim Johnson 6 3 230, Frank Moran 6 1 200, Tom Cowler 6 1 220. How are these guys small?
One thing I have always been absolutely stone solid on is that I think that Foreman is made for Jack Johnson - Johnson I think is the perfect foil for George - he would really have a field day with Big George - I am certain of that. Frazier I think would play into Johnson's hands and fall for his tomfoolery too much Ali would be a great match - one of THE greatest IMO - maybe similar in the early going to the early going of Ali-Norton I (some may say not really pulsating with excitement but I think a really interesting counter punching game) Shavers would be very risky at all times but would get his head boxed off nonetheless Quarry would take a lot of punishment but would probably make things rough in there - but any white heavyweight I guess would get Johnson's wrath haha
It is surprising that Evander Holyfield wasnt capable of coming of the canvas to beat a middleweight isnt it? Would you have been more impressed with the Ketchell victory, if Ketchell had the benefit Krispy Kreme donuts and ate hiw way up to 210 instead of training hard?
I know jack **** about old time boxers. I do however recognize primo phrasemaking when I see it. :good
Can we please ditch this cr4p about Johnson just beating up on smaller fighters. The reality is that he beat more top flight oponents over 200lbs than any heavyweight champion before the 70s, and gave up sizer to opponents in a lot of his key fights. You dont have to be a student of the era to grasp this, you just have to take a quick look at boxrec. People who maintain the tired old mantra that Johnson just beat up on smaller fighters are either grossly misinformed, or willfully perpetrate it in the face of the facts to suit their own agenda.
The question is what Johnson shows up ? Another is who is the ref ? Tony Perez made the second fight a stinker by allowing Ali to hold all night long ... if Johnson is allowed to hold all night it is a tough fight ... if he is forced to fight Frazier might be a nightmare for him ... the comparisons to McVey are off ... McVey actually had a very strong jab which he relied on for setting up most of his offense ... I've rarely seen Frazier jab ... a better analogy is that of a much better Marvin Hart ... not great for Jack ..
You'll be made to feel like a tween if you only realized how old some folk here are There is. Called General..now make your way there and Post, Oh messiah of Boxing
Beating shite fat men does not count, even if you quit with a broken arm or pick on a fat alfalfa farmer who retired from the game years before... and Denver Ed Martin flat out sucked. There, let it be known. Beating Sandy Ferguson or Sam McVea once in a 100 times does not qualify. You do not get a reputation out of beating Ed Martin or Ed Dunkfart... They were laudable competitors, forebearers of fat, unskilled fighters to come, but not in themselves, good fighters.
