That Herol Graham simply wasn't quite good enough to win the World title.

Felt the same as a kid about about another Graham, DP, welter Billy Graham, a local I was rootin' for.

You dumb****....that is only the illusion of speed, your body is just re-adapting to moving less weight. So you feel like you are moving faster.

The level that you can attain is a God given gift. The ability to improve both is definitely possible through improved technique.

As a Herol fan I'll alway spoint to circumstance, timing or bad luck but ultimately he had three bites at it and couldn't get over the line.

I think he'd have beaten an 1986-87 Hagler however.

Agree with the God-given gift, l31. Not sure about the latter; think with technique a kid may become more fluid 'n crisp -- more affective -- but not faster or harder hitting.

Power & Speed are things I feel you are born with but like you said, proper technique can help bring them out.

Or a Meldrick Taylor or a SRR or a SRL or a Mosley yeah that's not going to happen.

Think this will discourage kids learning to box, t, or will they be like so many who believe they'll be the exception?

I don't think so lol. It takes alot of mental toughness to be a successful boxer and kids can get past what I said to be good-great fighters. The truth hurts but it's also beneficial to hear.

John if you really can not improve on power .... how do you explain Thomas Hearns ?
Who wasn't known for power at all as a AM and went to being a ATG puncher.

If im not mistaking he fought amatuer when he was still in his teens then started to develop his power as he filled out and his body matured.

Hearns was ALWAYS a monster puncher right from the git-go at Kronk, 'n every gym rat who saw him flatten bigger guys in sparring knew it. He was just reined in to stick 'n move for the amateurs. But, he was born a banger, D.

Just wanted to say upfront to you and John that im not trying to argue btw but more to imform myself by listening to knowledgeble posters.

Could the turnaround for Hearns really just be credited by him maturing into his body? I mean that is a pretty radical change where some people apparently have their natural punching power really early on in life (even without learning proper technique)
