Nope, D, the stick 'n move was to pile-up points; the name of the game in the amateurs.

kids come into the gym lookin' like death warmed over and they can knock over buildings -- no technique -- nothin! It is what is.

You can learn mechanics, D, but you can't learn dynamite. If it was teachable, every hard-training pro would be a Julian Jackson. Yuri Foreman works like an animal in the gym, but he can't knock your hat off.

Yes, I agree with this. Technique can be taught, power can't. Really? Hearns was always a banger? Then it's true that power & speed are God given.

I think power can be enhanced but not drastically.

Bit late on this one but agree 100% that fighter are born with the big punch. They either have it or they dont
The raw Marciano had virtually no footwork but couldnt half punch. The footwork, technique could all be improved and the trainer has something to work on
The Amateur and Professional ranks are different and sometimes a fighters power is not needed or seen in the Amateur ranks.By the same token the Amateur ranks dont expose a fighters chin

i heard ali came from a middle class family. and mayweather jr grew up never having to work. i imagine zab judah's family was middle class considering the father was a pro kickboxer.

most modern western european fighters would be middleclass.i meant having a tough background doesn't mean you will be tough in the ring.look at v.ortiz, kid has one of the toughest lifestories ive heard but he was found wanting in his toughest fight

Its really very simple. Everyone has their upper potential (let's call it a biological limit) in both speed and power, which they can attain with training. Its very unlikely you'd ever see a fighter hitting his upper potential in both speed and power on his first ever day of boxing.

You'd have to convince the good pros that Graziano flattened sparring right off the street -- throwin' from the floor -- that he didn't have TNT in his right, l. As for hand speed, Pep 'n Camacho had it from day one.

Guys can tune-up, look more professional and composed with training, but speed 'n power remains constant.
