No mate...they tried to make the Golovkin fight when Sturm was made super champ...the deal fell over....choc moved on. 1 month later the purse bid came up but it was one sided as it turns out they were going 154
Yeah he worked out that he would be better off fighting a worthless opponent at 154 for an even more worthless belt than the second rate WBA middleweight belt. Pioneer alright. :good

I don't think he realised that golovkin was a huge draw who is well known to casual boxing fans or the esteem that he was held in no doubt since his amateur days by the australian boxing community. He really missed a beat with this, to be honest I think he was using golovkin's world wide reputation as a means of raising his profile in the sport. I don't think many people had heard of mundine even in australia before his association with the face of boxing which is clearly golovkin.
