Was Bert Cooper Ever Sparked Out?

Cooper seemed to get up for the big fights against Holyfield and Moorer, but I've seen him flat out quit many times. At his best, when he was determined to win, he was a difficult opponent though.

 

I agree, with all of your comments about the lack of discipline.. No arguments here. But I also think that once the man was in action, he generally showed up to fight, even if he was in crap shape. As for his prime? Well, I think it was brief, and most likely stretched from about 1990-1992, but that's subject to opinion, and won't argue life and death over it....

On a sidenote, you'll be interested to hear that I just had an endoscopy done due to difficulty swallowing... Apparently, my esphagus was narrowed due to years of acid reflux... Anyway, some images of my DUODENUM appeared on the photos.. Just though you'd like that Dean..

 

Aww, Jesus! Are you going to need to undergo hiatal hernia surgery? A hillbilly redneck friend of mine who characteristically butchers our language had to have an operation to correct her's years ago. She was telling people at the time that she had to be hospitalized because she had a "hyena." (How does your "duoDEENnum" look anyway?)

Anyway, I needed to have my throat diolated so that the esophageal pathway is bigger, making it easier for me to swallow.. While they were down there, they removed some small polyps and biopsied them.. They turned out to be harmless. As for my duoDEENum, I guess there was nothing wrong with it...

 

She's one of my two best friends, and the last employer I worked for before we both took a very early retirement. She was the first member of her family to get a high school diploma (barely), and is as hilariously ruinous to the language when she types out malapropisms as well as when speaking them, something of a hayseed Norm Crosby. However, I witnessed her doing brilliantly intuitive things in the conduct of her work, particularly with respect to resolving computer problems and personnel conflicts. (It helped that we worked for a company which cared nothing for academic credentials, strictly job performance.) Despite whatever differences we have, we understand one another perfectly. (She's one of the very few non relatives whose company I can enjoy comfortably in complete silence, a pleasant and relaxing situation. Eight years after we exited the workplace, I still drive 30 miles to visit her and take her to lunch or dinner from time to time.)

Well, I'm relieved to learn your polyps were benign. I'm probably facing an adenoidectomy myself to alleviate a lifelong severe case of sleep apnea. (Yes, I've tried CPAP, but it's damned uncomfortable, and if you're in the least bit claustrophobic, forget about it!)

 

Its mice to have friends like that... Most of us really only encounter perhaps two or three such friends in our entire lifetime.. I hope your surgary goes smoothly, ( and I'm sure it will. ) You're partner will thank you for it, once you're no longer keeping her up with uncontrollable snoring..

Where do you currently reside anyway?

 

Being somewhat intransient, I typically live around the rural central New England tri-state area (NH, VT and MA, usually in southwestern NH. I don't really have a fixed residence, but have maintained status in NH for legal purposes, even when living in Vermont through an uninterrupted four year period which could be resumed at any time. (My former employer and her husband have maintained a standing offer to become my landlords if I were to ever chose to move back to Vermont, where they live. Being retired with a guaranteed income also means I could visit friends and family around the country for extended periods far longer than a typical vacation from work would allow.)

I have a girlfriend in Texas, my other best friend, currently dealing with some long term family issues (like a mother with Alzheimer's), so my loud snoring doesn't bother her from this distance. Out of fairness to both of us though, it has to be an open relationship, as I have aging family members in my current neck of the woods whose needs also must be administered to.

So far, she hasn't found anybody else, so I wouldn't feel right getting involved with anything more than casual dating. Whatever happens though, she and I will remain lifelong friends. (I helped her earn her doctorate, a powerful tie for her. As a result though, whenever we're together, she never lets me pick up the tab. I've sneaked payment for an occasional outing when she wasn't looking. Otherwise, I start to feel like a gigolo, and I'm not gigolo material!)

Not all cases of severe sleep apnea result in snoring, although it does for me. Quality of life while awake is the big issue. Lousy sleep leads to lousy, listless waking hours. (And yes, that was one of several factors which led to my early retirement.) In recent years, the resultant lack of energy and listlessness has led to a precipitous weight gain, which I'm hoping successful treatment will reverse. (I've read clinical reports crediting weight losses of over 200 pounds to the elimination of sleep apnea. I'm not that much overweight, but I was so lean most of my life to be completely unrecognizable now. The funny thing is that my girlfriend is a real looker as well as brainy, yet when she told me she loved me, it was the fat me. Coming from a much younger trophy date, I'll take it!)

 

I live in a town called Lake Villa, Illinois, and work about 10 minutes from my house as my stepfather's office manager... He has been an oncologist for over 30 years... My job has its trying moments, but I also have a lot down time, which ultimately led me to sites like ESB, Facebook, etc.... I love the east coast, and have a sister who once lived in Boston for about 8 yeas.. One time while I was visiting, we decided to drive to Vermont to go snow boarding at stow mountain in Burlington. We got stuck in New Hampshire in a snow storm on the way there, and ended up staying at a bed and breakfast place over night... The couple seemed friendly enough, but the next day when I was brushing two feet of snow off of our car, the wife opened up to my sister saying that they were going through an ugly divorce...... One day later, we were at the mountain with a fesh blanket of soft powdered snow... My first time snow boarding resulted in my spending most of the day on my butt.....

I could never do long distance relationships myself, but its nice that you have somebody..

Yeah, I disagree that Cooper lacked heart. He had a lot of heart he was just a junkie and could be lazy as well.
