Who wins this battle of the punchers? You could argue that neither fighter had a great deal other than concussive power. What's your pick?
that is what I think. Jackson was more legit defensively and in all aspects of the game. His punches were shorter and he would probably stop John in about 2 or 3 rounds.
Jackson is the better fighter and he lands first. This could be over very quick considering Mugabi's sometimes shaky chin.
I'll take the '92 "Action" Jackson to KO the '86 Mugabi at 160 pounds......... Jackson and Mugabi were BOTH limited in overall skills, but the power was there.......... Jackson lands first and gets the KO............ Jackson was a sharper puncher.......... MR.BILL

Mugabi's whole claim to fame was taking an exciting 11 round ass whuppin from a faded Hagler. He beat no one of note, except for Fletcher. He was a vicious puncher, dont get me wrong, but Jackson was simply the better fighter of the two... and would blast The Beast within 5 rounds.
Mugabi did look tough against Hagler, but Jackson hit harder than an aging Hagler and Mugabi is there to be hit. Someone is getting knocked out and it's probably Mugabi.
After being dropped twice, Muagbi drops Jackson two times, is on the verge of stopping "The Hawk" in the fifth and then Jackson let's a big right hand go and the fight is over. Jackson KO 5
I think it was more so his chin problems than a lack of trying. You could say he quit in the Duane Thomas fight, but he did suffer a legitimate injury like Chuvalo against Frazier, and no one in their right mind would call Chuvalo a quitter. Against Norris and McClellan, his chin just didn't hold up even though he tried his best to hang on.
I admit I have a thing against Mugabi... I went with a few friends to Bruno/Emmen. A Bruno fight being the only way of attracting my friends, who knew a bit about the sport, to a fight. Anyway I spent the afternoon of the fight explaining the virtues of the amazing Beast, and how he is going to look a Million Pounds tonight, as the main event is going to suck. Oh course I was spot on, one broken ankle later, the Bruno fight did not last a round, but sadly for me, nor the breathtaking Mugabi... I got a ton of grief for that, of course hindsight shows he lost to a pretty decent fighter (McClellan), but still to this day, I still (rightly) get mocked for that Mugabi farce of a performance.
Folks, For "F" sakes, Mugabi was a winger who lacked defense........ Jackson was a sharp bomber who also lacked defense........ BUT! Jackson's shorter punches land first......... Jackson KO's Mugabi in a thrilling and wicked manner...... JACKSON! MR.BILL:rasta
