154 and 160's quietly improved to the point where there's a number of matchups that I'd like to see the Punisher in that could realistically be made. Cotto, Martinez or Cintron rematch, or Dzinziruk would be my top 4.
Paul's got a warrior mentality, but if he were to exploit that mismatch for even 1/4 of the fight, it's over. But he does get hit too much that I won't deny, I just don't know if Cotto can turn his lights out when he gets to him (if he gets to him, should Willy decide to fight smart, and tall) Cotto IMO needs to go back down to 147 IMO, everyone after Foreman in the upper echelon of 154 poses too many problems for him, which is where he'll have to stay if he wants his future to remain relevant.
I'd like to see Williams rematch Martinez at 154 or 160. I do not think PW would leave any unanswered questions in a second fight. Martinez is extremely over rated right now based on his win over KP. Reality is that Martinez fought a version of Pavlik that would have lost to Zuniga, Miranda, and Taylor. Even that sorry ass version of Kelly still won 5 rounds. Somebody needs to bring Martinez, Dibella, and the Martinez sack swingers back down to earth, and I think PDub is the right man for the job.
Thats nice.. But what makes you think Williams does better in the rematch? Martinez has gotten better experience against a harder hitting pressure fighter, while Williams gained???\ I think it's still close but Martinez stays a little smarter and stays outside..
Margarito @54 is interesting , but Marg wants **** all to do with Williams at any weight class , Martinez Williams 2 needs to be made like yesterday ...................................
Martinez beat Williams without having time to train for the fight. Can you imagine what Martinez would do if he had time to train? Williams needs to rematch Cintron, the fight was not fnished at all.
NBA says it and I believe it. He really has no reason to lie about that on this board and he is the most credible source we have on it. Now, he may not be right, but he is in the position to know.
"Obviously, Martinez isn't ducking anyone. Not a soul. DiBella said whomever HBO wanted Martinez to fight, he would try to make the deal. I know HBO prefers the rematch with Williams, but Williams' people are simply not interested right now. Dan Goossen, Williams' promoter, has told me multiple times in recent weeks that Williams is returning to welterweight for his next fight" http://espn.go.com/sports/boxing/blog/_/name/rafael_dan/id/5270826/why-martinez-hbo-date must be going for shane
He needs a big fight now so he should go for either Mosley or Cotto who both have more mainstream appeal than anyone he has fought so far. Obviously a fight with Mayweather or Pacman would be the the main aim but unlikely. If these fail a rematch with Martinez seems about the best bet.
When I mentioned to him that people still don't believe he can make 147, he just laughed and said "Tell them to look at the weigh-in. I weighed 152.5 for a big 54 guy." Peterson told me "Paul doesn't have to lose 5 more pounds, he has to keep on five less pounds duing the training. He would be a lot more comfortable at 147, so he doesn't have to eat so much in training camp." Maybe if you guys knew his brothers Levy and Leon you would understand. Both of them dudes are like 6'1" and neither of them weigh an ounce over 160. They just skinny as hell. All of 'em. And yeah, he stil wants to fight Shane and Cotto in September, but if they don't bite, then he'll have to go elsewhere. I know Paul isn't a mega star at the box office, but c'mon guys. Goddamn! I think he at least has earned a shot at Shane or Cotto. **** he can't be much less of a draw than Yuri Foreman, Joshua Clottey, or Andre Berto.
I'll go for Shane for the most possible to bite the offer... coming from a lost he don't have the luxury to choose a dance partner.. Berto/Cotto/Margo/Pac won't fight him.. too risky on their side... Abt.. Cotto I doubt Arum will allow his PR cash cow to fight Williams...
