Cotto is one (losing fight) step away from being Ricky Hatton

Sorry Cotto fans... and boxing fans for that matter... I'm not even a cotto fan like that at all but this dude is as close to being hatton as anyone is in the sport..


Margarito beats him again
Paul Williams will retire him
Angulo will beat him
Pacquiao will retire him
not sure what dzinzurik does with cotto
I even think cintron would beat him


at this point why would any one want to see cotto fight cintron anyways? isn't that moving backwards.... this guy went from beating &/or fighting p4p rated fighters and being a top 3/4 p4p'er to fighting kermit cintron? who he could potentially lose to & lose badly too?


on the other hand I don't want to see him fight chavez jr, its a waste of time. I have no problem with cotto continuing on but I don't want to see him get beat the hell up and I don't want to see him take a cake walk. All the fighters at 154 are hungrier, have chins, can hit hard, and have a lot of elements of what could potentially struggle with.


If he takes another loss we might as well call him the puerto rican ricky hatton




edit: he should fight berto in peurto rico or in nyc during puerto rico day parade as his last career fight... would be a perfect way to go out... or fight some bum like chavez jr then challenge mayweather at 154 as a going away fight... I'm not trying to see this dude get beat the **** up for no reason... atleast if he fights mayweather and loses its to someone he never fought before.... unlike pacquiao

I agree that if he loses to anyone other than floyd its over. But thats why his next fight is still interesting, doesnt matter who he fights.

 

He's had a solid career with wins over Maussa, N'dou, Corley, Torres, Malignaggi, Quintana, Judah, Mosley & Clottey.

He lost two fights to very good fighters in their prime, one which ruined him and very possibly may have been because of cheating.

I really rate the guy for dusting himself off and winning another World title in a third weight class without taking a break. A lot of champions names are made by how they come back from losses and like Tu papa states above, it makes his fights mighty interesting to watch.

 

I disagree, I think Cotto would beat Margarito and Angulo. Williams and Pacquiao and Mayweather would beat him, but these guys are p4p top5.

 

Let see him fight again and them we will judge.

 

I think he can beat Margarito. I don't believe Cotto would make the same mistake in a 2nd fight with Marg he did in the first fight (head hunting, no body attack).

Angulo is a younger version of Margarito and would be a good test for Cotto. It would be a tough match, but winnable for Cotto.

I would not want him to face Pacquiao. Manny is just in another league.

Cotto vs Cintron is the kind of fight you hold in MSG during Puerto Rican Day parade weekend. Cintron folds under Cotto's attack.

I think Williams is beatable and I think Cotto can do it. Williams doesn't use his height and reach effectively. He likes to stoop down and trade on the inside, which would be ill advised against Cotto. Also, Williams may throw a lot of punches, but he's not "punishing" anyone. Aside from Quintana, who got chinned in the first round of their 2nd fight, Williams doesn't really throw hard punches. With the right game plan, Cotto has a good chance of beating him.

A loss against Mayweather is nothing to be ashamed of and it is a match I would love to see as a boxing fan. I see Mayweather winning, but I see Cotto giving a very good account of himself and surprising a lot of people. Cotto's style may give Money some problems. Not saying he would win, just saying it would be a tougher match than expected.


I hope Cotto continues to do well. He is a great fighter and a true asset to the sport.

 

thank you brother for being logical... the guy that made this post clearly doesnt like cotto and want to see him beat down like a dog instead of going out with dignity...hatton could still come back and gain some of his respect back with any of the 140ers right now...they lost 2 hard fights!...so ****in what!

 

I think he beats Angulo. Cintron schooled Angulo. Cotto would likely do the same. Margarito? Who knows. If his hands weren't loaded during the first fight then, yes, he beats Cotto again, probably worse. If the wraps were loaded, then it's a clean slate. Cotto was boxing circles around him. I agree though that Cotto loses to practically every other top 147-154 fighter.

 

Nah....I give Cotto a lot of credit. He's a true warrior. He's had some ups and downs but ultimately Cotto has shone resolve and the ability to overcome odds. Sure he's tested himself against the very best and he's about 50/50. he's really only lost to Marg and PAC so he's beaten the likes of guys like Zab and Shane.

As he gets older...fills out more and secures the likes of a world class trainer like Manny....I think he's career is headed in the right direction. He needs to make sure he's fighting the right fights at 154 until he completely acclimates and adjusts to the higher weight, but Cotto can do it.

 

Oh...and Angulo and Cintron don't beat Cotto.:smoke

 

Cotto has a WAY better defense than Hatton, and he's not even close to anywhere as reckless compared to Hatton.

 

I think a Pac-Cotto rematch at 154 would be interesting. This time, let Pac carry the handicap. Cotto is a true warrior, and like all greats, he
has challenged all the best.

I'm not counting him out yet. He still comes to fight and with Manny in his corner now - he could do really well in his next couple of fights.
