I like Marquez at both weights. Laporte fought some sick competition: Sanchez, Pedroza, Chavez, Lockridge, Castillo, to name a few. But he generally didn't produce enough sustained offense to beat a fighter of JMM's abillity. I don't see Laporte blasting JMM out and I don't see him outpointing JMM.

I think Marquez would make this look ridiculously easy. Even though Laporte presented challenges for some tough guys, this is just a terrible matchup stylistically for laporte.

I dunno, Laporte was a smooth boxer-puncher at his best with a big punch.Strong as an ox as well.

His well documented lethargy would cost him against a busy, very accurate puncher like Marquez more often than not, but Juan is there to be hit and if Laporte brings the kind of form he had against Julio, it could be a helluva close fight.I wouldn't be too surprised if he wore down and stopped Marquez.

Marquez, just simply a better fighter, possibly a great fighter.

Laporte was a good fighter and sometimes a very talented fighter, however Marquez even beats the best version of Laporte who was good at everything Good Skills,Good Punch,Great Chin but tended to get lazy in there.. He would be in this fight early but eventually Marquez shows the superior class and wins a convincing decision. Wouldnt be surprised to see Laporte score a flash knockdown in the early to mid rounds though. 144-140.

Can anybody give me one good reason why this wouldn't be a close fight? I stress the word 'good'.

I doubt it! It would be a very good a competitive match..I think JMM would take close decisions in both of them, but would not be surprised if Laporte was able to pull one out! I generally think JMM was a slightly higher caliber boxer, and Laporte was just under that...sometimes he seemed to coast and just like that cost him in his real life fights against greats/borderline greats it would cost him again!

But still a good fight, I enjoy all of Laporte and JMM's fights any way, and have no reason to believe this would not measure up!

Agree Philly. JMM's greater urgency nicks it for him, imo.

No way Marquez does this easily against the very best version of Juan...He doesnt even do it all that easy against the lazy, phone it in version of Laporte that we saw at times.

I do pick him more often than not though...It really would be some fight.

I'll take Marquez too. But it's not as if this won't be a good/competetive fight, give me a break. Marquez i just reckon outfights his man on the cards over the distance, plenty of combos and fightbacks from him when he's attacked etc. I maintain that Marquez' biggest defficiency is his footwork, but to his credit, some pure boxers still couldn't truly exploit it simply because Marquez was a better fighter than them (see Chris John, who i thought Marquez clearly beat), it wasn't until he fought Mayweather that his footwork seriously took a pounding, and even then he was hardly at his best (though i really liked that display by Mayweather regardless). I don't think Laporte would school him on that front. Marquez is very hittable though, but i just think he deals with it, and at 126 has very good ability himself, so i think he would win.
