A disproportionately large amount compared to any other division, I think. Hold for number.

    Post Marciano:

    1. Floyd Patterson - Middleweight - 1952
    2. Muhammad Ali - Light Heavyweight - 1960
    3. Joe Frazier - Heavyweight - 1964
    4. George Foreman - Heavyweight - 1968
    5. Leon Spinks - 1976 - Light Heavyweight
    6. Michael Spinks - Middleweight - 1976
    7. Ray Mercer - 1988 - Heavyweight
    8. Lennox Lewis - 1988 - Super Heavyweight
    9. Wladimir Klitschko - 1996 - Super Heavyweight

All but Mercer were Linear, I believe. Some still holding out on calling Wladdy that though. Holy was Bronze, I'm pretty sure.

Edit: Holyfield was a bronze medalist, Light Heavyweight, 1984

Ingemar Johansson was a silver medalist at heavyweight in 1952.

Riddick Bowe was a silver medalist at Super Heavyweight in 1988.

Chris Byrd was a silver medalist at Middleweight in 1992

Sultan Ibragimov was a silver medalist at Heavyweight in 2000

Okay...I'm tapped out for the gold, silver and bronze guys. Anybody else? 9 gold, 1 bronze and 4 silver post Rock. Not bloody bad.

Pretty disgraceful DQ loss more like :-(

Boxing in the Olympics is getting more and more lame each time.... and will do until the scoring system is switched to something that actually rewards good boxing.

Lose the headguards, stop halting the fight because of a bust lip, stop issuing standing counts for every decent punch, and don't stop the fight when a fighter is slightly hurt.

the catch 22 of it is that olympic style boxing wants to be a sport not a fighting entertainment. but too punch somebody and to knock the other guy out is the objective not very scientific and sportsman like. turning it into a game of tap and run.

taekwondo has gone the same route as well. only a waiting game.

they should use a point scoring system without the fighters seeing the scores mid round. i'm fine with cuts stopping it. this is a sport for athletic kids better not **** there career up already. the standing knockdowns just beggar belief.

more to the subject, amazing Tyrell Biggs is the only super heavy not to get a title

What is actually very interesting, is that the middleweight, light heavyweight, heavyweight and Superheavyweight division have each provided two World Champions (by my rough count). And The middleweight division has probably been closest with Roy Jones Jr failing within an inch on both counts. Ray Mercer for the heavys wasnt far off with his alpa title win. So, which of these divisions will provide the next world champion. Leading contenders are:
Middle - Seems a stretch, maybe a new challenger to arrive this time.
Light Heavies - Andrew Ward - Would be a major surprise
Heavyweight - Odlandier Solis is the best hope but looks unlikely
Superheavy - Povetkin is probably as good a chance as anyone, and i suppose Audley is technically around still.

Don't laugh, Harrison is the number two heavyweight right now and he and Haye are going to fight for the real, vacant lineal title soon. 1 VS 2. The way it has to be.

To be fair though, in his shot at the undisputed title, Biggs was faced with an angry 1987 Tyson who wanted to sadistically punish him for his participation in trash talking with Tillman regarding Tyson not making the 1984 Olympic team. I strongly believe that the brutal beating he received ruined him as a fighter.

If you tallying up medals, both Golota and Tua won bronze in the Olympics. Larry Doland won silver. Current heavyweight O.Solis won gold in the heavyweight ( Not super heavy weight ) class in 2004.
