Sorry this is false. Didn't face the best guys around? Well he holds victories over the other 2 greatest fighters of his era besides himself around his weight.

He was tested with fighters on Tarver's level several times in his career, this difference was he was not on a steady decline... Harding broke Tarver's jaw, Roy beat Harding, Roy destroyed Hill, who even at that stage was on Tarver's level in my opinion. Prime Griffin was on Tarver's level, Roy beat Tarver also, you forget he was not flattened the first time he was "tested" by Tarver.

On a head to head, pound for pound basis, he's one of the greatest fighters in history. Arguably the best to ever lace them up.

RJJ had amazing athletic ability but in terms of pure skill many fighters are better including Toney and Hopkins.

That's why RJJ fell off so hard when he got old and wasn't in his best physical form.

The only way to truly test skill is to fight top opposition. If he resume is weak than you can't really tell how good a fighter was.

depends on how you define skill though. technique? roy had none. but skill? in terms of combinations, footwork, generalship (yes generalship) he was light years ahead of hopkins and toney

With that said RJJ was a great fighter. He fought some good fighters just had too many periods where he was facing tomato cans too. I have him somewhere around 15.

I rank him first or second right ahead or behind SRR I honestly dont rate Ali as that high atg he was great but i think his personality also clouds people's judgment.. i mean if you listen to people he was invincible.. yet he still managed to lose some:huh and i cant even believe the whole Cooper fiasco..
Anyhow a prime RJJ was just insane and was truly amazing to watch.. the dude went years without losing a round. :thumbsup

i think it was more down to athletic ability than skills.

Did you even saw those fights or are you talking out of your ass as usual?

He looked like **** against Harding and Griffin in their first fight if anything those fights show that he could be bothered by slick counter punchers who forced him to lead.

he definitely relied on that to be sure, but in the end he took what he had and completely dominated everyone put in front of him. without athleticism, who knows. but without athleticism who would robinson be, without stamina and toughness who would greb be, without speed who would ali be. you can't seperate natural qualities from the fighters
