Demers vs. Vera and Lemieux vs. Ayala RBR - it's an early FNF! 8:30PM EST start time!

Vera pressing, Demers fighting well backwards. He lines Vera up with a stiff jab that pushes his head back. Demers partially eats an uppercut, then gets Vera's head trapped under his upper right arm after throwing and missing a 1-2 in answer. Just after the break Vera drops him with a 1-2 of his own. Demers beats the count easily (and no, Marlon Wright did not count slow). Vera batters Demers nearly to his knees, and an eight count is administered. Vera jumps on him and loads up on big shots, mostly right hands. One clips Demers right on the chin hard, then another, and it's stopped.

 

Good for Brian. It's really not that big a shocker, to be fair.

When you think about it, the only aggressive opponent Demers had faced was Dionisio Miranda (slow-starting Abraham and shot Joppy are punchers, but do not qualify as very aggressive opponents) - and Brian is a much better skilled boxer than Miranda (or McCrary or Vanda, the other "aggressive" types Demers has been able to easily outclass).

Pressure and hard right hands from a strong guy his own size are simply too much for the Quebecer, who is talented but not sturdy.

 

He was solid B level.

Losing this one should signal that he's pretty much cashed out at this point, though, yeah.

 

Smichet was a tough ******* and always brought the fight, but he falls in the same class as D. Miranda, McCrary, and Vanda - they were all a step behind Demers in class and not as skilled boxing-wise as Vera, and therefore unable to expose his weakness with their brands of pressure.

I should rephrase that Miranda is the only "aggressive & dangerous" opponent he'd had - whereas Vera is the first to have fired on all cylinders..."aggressive, dangerous, and skilled" (Abraham, for reference, is "dangerous and skilled" but not "aggressive", which is why it took him so much longer to get the job done).
