WBA light-welterweight king, Khan, says he is ready to give the European lightweight champion a boxing lesson while Murray fired back, claiming he would expose his Bolton rival as a fraud. Khan, who hopes to make the next defence of his crown on July 31 at the MEN Arena or Londons O2, has added Murray to a list of potential opponents that also includes Joel Casamayor and Michael Katsidis. He said: Murrays name has popped up and honestly that fight would be a dream come true for me because it would be an easy fight. It would be a boxing lesson against someone whos been mouthing off for a long, long time. He was offered the fight when I was with Frank Warren and he didnt take it, but people think Im the one ducking him. Murray, who has the mandatory defence of his European title against Andrei Kudriatsev before the end of the summer, immediately hit back, saying: I am more than happy to take the fight and I would expose him for the fraud he is. I think hes conned the British public. Hes not a fighter. He's not fought anyone yet. Hes offering fights to me, Katsidis and Casamayor, who are all lightweights. Hes not willing to fight anyone from his own division. His camp know hes not very good and hes an accident waiting to happen. Hes looking to fight people at a lower weight because he knows that as soon as he fights someone decent at his own weight hes going to get knocked out. But I hope he takes the fight because I will show him up for the fraud he is. There has been no shortage of ill feeling between Greater Manchesters two brightest fighters for the past two years. And despite continual talks over a potential clash, boxing fans have been left waiting for a bout to be finalised. There is still a possibility that the fight could come off in July in front of a sell-out MEN, but it could be shelved until the end of the year, with Golden Boy identifying Murray or Juan Manuel Marquez as ideal opponents for Khan as they look to build his name further in the US. Murrays trainer, Joe Gallagher, insists his man will take the fight whenever and wherever. Amir Khan is a bully, looking to fight smaller guys, he said. But Murray is one kid who wont be bullied. We see nothing in Amir Khan that impresses or frightens us. Hes fast, hes got two hands, two feet and a glass chin. Can someone remind Amir that hes not a lightweight anymore? These are the fights he should have been taking two years ago. Would Murray beat Khan? Have your say.
Khan in 6. I'd actually like to see Khan do a "bum of the month" type tour and knock off some of these hype jobs with big mouths, like Murray and McCloskey.
He should start with avenging his loss to Limond :hey Seriously though.... it's a decent idea. The one with the best chance to beat him would have been Thaxton. Murray would have been clowned and beaten up..... likewise everybody else.
Well the question is, Who has Murray fought himself? I mean look at his record compared to Khan's. Khan would only really care about this fight because he left a bad reputation with some of his fellow countrymen that he ducked Murray. Murray doesn't even deserve a fight. He needs to prove himself a little more.
As part of the contract, if they lose, they're contractually obligated not to mention 'world' titles again until they've fought someone in the top ten.
I hope Murray isn't going to fall into the trap of waiting for a Kahn fight to fall into his lap instead of getting out there and getting on with his own career.
The old "I know I'm world class" interview having knocked over your seventh consecutive nobody. We've seen it too many times.
Hennesey told Kats people that a Kats-Murray fight would pull a 25,000 crowd in Manchester so Kats team expressed an interest (not surprisingly!!). I'm sure you can spot the hole in the plan....
Murray just needs to get away from Hennessy asap..... at the level he's been fighting at (basically half decent domestic) he needs to be much more active. Mitchell vs Murray is the fight that they ought to be looking to make, both of them.
Well if he fights and beats a named fighter then may be he could get half that number using anti khan rheteric to promote it.
Isn't it a touch rum Murray saying Khan only fights smaller guys when his last three opponents have been legit light-welters?
