Agreed. If you are a British level fighter, you are a British level fighter..... it's nothing at all to be ashamed of. Having the best fighters holding the British title would help to bring back a bit of relevance to it, rather than just being passed around when every single half decent prospect moves on as part of their inevitable crusade to world honours. It's empty headed clowns like Maloney that are the main problem. For all the **** I give Warren he probably makes these fights more regularly than anybody else.
Theres too much (relatively) easy money to be made getting a International/ Intercontinental type belt these days. The British title used to be a bottleneck, in a positive sense, that made the best in the country fight each other before they progressed onto European and World title shots. The way things are at the moment its too easy to bypass that bottleneck.
There's that and also the fact that only British fighters seem to consistently fight for the European.... other than the dodgy Italian that can't punch or coming off a KO loss. Plenty of our European champions (12 is it?) haven't beaten the best/next best British fighter in their weight class. A promoter can realistically have three fighters holding titles without having to put any of them in a risky matchup..... the best example recently is the farce at light middle about ten years ago.... one having British, the other Commonwealth, WBU, WBF etc etc and hardly any of them fought each other, and one by one they ALL (to my knowledge) got chinned in big fights, probably due to a lack of experience as much as anything. Plus, waiting for a weak champion isn't good either..... Nicky Cook was left on the shelf for the best part of two years and was absolutely dead on the scales and ring rusty against Luevano and was battered.
Murray is an odd character, why does he want to rematch McAllister, what is he looking to achieve, should get on with it.
Yup, I remember me, you and Gaz discussing that a while back. It really was a farcical situation. No lessons were learnt though.
It was a real shame about that domestic 154 division, they all waited around for world title shots instead of fighting each other and got picked off one by one.
Murray is a nobody. He had those fights in the USA and a chance to make a name for himself but looked absolute cack. Khan will have a nice easy night if he fights Murray.
Murray is right though. Con ducks, dodges and hides from anyone decent in his own weight class. Freddy knows his chin is pathetic.
ive ssen paul at work in my gym and imo would stand a great chance against amir, its a fight id love to see,two class fighters:good
