Joe is an over rated slapping piece of garbage. Dawson would have pounded the wheels off of him and Joe chose to retire rather than face him or any other legit, prime, fighter. Joe's decision to fight over the hill fighters and bums for over ten years is why he draws flack, it has nothing to do with Dawson who's career is still ahead of him.

 

Funny how easily JC would have beaten Johnson even though they never fought.................If you are going to tell me Glenn Johnson didn't pose a legit threat, he was a threat to anyone.........then you are just nuthugging.

the difference is simple....dawson is 27....he cant go back and fight a prime tarver..or a prime glen johnson...those guys are decents tests for a young champ and something the networks would approve..not to mention a decisive win over a guy, adamek, who is on quite a roll....

while calzaghe was no spring chicken himself when he fought 'nard and roy...he waited wayyy too long...and basically waited until he knew he had advantages...and the win over nard was real close...too close for someone who was easily outworking his opponent....

Both guys are hated but for different reasons.

Mayweather because he runs his mouth about how great he is, but conveniently managed not to fight alot of the best guys available for quite some time. All while saying he is the best thing ever. That's a recipe for dislike. Does anyone ever doubt his talent or ability? Most think he would have beaten a prime Mosley, Cotto, Margarito, etc despite his seeming reluctance to fight them.

Calzaghe gets slagged because the perception is that he doesn't have the level of opposition equalling the lofty status many of his fans bestow upon him. The perception is also that he avoided challenges and that if he had stepped up his competition he would have lost. After fighting a few of the biggest names in boxing when they were at an advanced age and varying degrees of decline, he calls himself a legend killer.

Right or wrong, people tend to dislike fighters/people who strike them as disingenuous.

PS-Personally, I think the "0" is the most overrated thing in boxing. It actually causes more, and usually better, fights not to get made than it does anything positive. It has become a marketing tool and that's about it.

Mosley ran from Mayweather till it was the biggest money fight he could make. Margo is nothing but a journeyman that cheated his way to a couple of wins, and Mayweathers resume is much stronger than Cotto's.

 

Calzaghe gets held to a higher standard than Dawson since Calzaghe is in the discussion of greatness and Dawson is a young guy making his name.
