If there is one I would like to see that, I doubt that a tough guy like Dempsey would be afraid to fight fighters whether he is really good or big and tall since thats what he been doing fighting those type of guys.

He was in the ring with Jeanette. Then he climbed out.

There was never a scheduled prize fight between Dempsey and Jeannette that I know of. I don't think they ever even signed to fight.

djanders,I too have never read ANYTHING about Jack Dempsey fighting Joe Jeannette...Never ,and I have ring Mags and other books from the 1920s, and this latest salvo against Dempsey, takes the cake...Not to be taking seriously these tirades against the great Manassa Mauler...Jack dempsey's legacy will outlive his obsessed detractors...

It was an exhibition. Jeneatte got in the ring to fight dempsey. Jeanette was 39 years old. Dempsey saw him, and walked out of the ring..refusing to fight the old man.

God I hate this search engine...anyone have the article anymore? So I can put a halt to these naysayers.

Yeah, I guess I'd call myself a Dempsey fan. I like watching his fights and I can appreciate his Damn The Torpedoes style. He's greatly overrated in classic h2h matchups much like Marciano for obvious reasons but I'm a fan overall. The only negative thing anyone can say is that he didn't always fight the very best fighters available...

Very rare footage of Dempsey pre-Willard. Demspey was without a doubt one of the greatest heavyweights of all time yet i have to admit i dont like how he "swings" too much,in this video and with the Firpo fight, you see that he swings an awful lot, one of the very few negative points about him but still one of the best fighters ever.

Such a weak argument. Jr. High School league ...

The story is that Jeannette pulled a stunt by showing up unscheduled at a public sparring match for Dempsey and tried to substitute for the scheduled sparring partner. Kearns did what any smart manager would with a title contender being confronted by a ringer and pulled him out of the ring .. any smart manager would have done the same as Dempsey had zero to gain by spanking an old Jeannette and everything to lose .. Jeannetter was so old at the time he could have qualified as a contender for Rocky ...

Very interesting clip of Dempsey and one of his sparring partners Big Bill Tate..Dempsey works on his bobbing and weave style in this segment.
As you see his head was always tucked on his shoulders, and with his bobbing style , this made Dempsey a difficult target to hit solidly on the jaw...Contrary to his detractors ,Dempsey was not a typical "swarming
fighter ", but was clever in his way...At his peak, a tough nut to crack...
