Cotto just had a good win at 154lbs, actually. Picking up a belt while he was at it. Cotto also has a win over Clottey since fighting Rockgloves, and a loss to Pacquiao - a guy who would send pieces of Rockgloves' jaw into the stands if they ever fought.

Margarito, on the other hand, was beaten to pieces by Mosley, took a lay off because he was caught in the act of trying to gain a material advantage in said fight. Oh, and he beat... Roberto Garcia... in a ten rounder by decision....

So, no, neither by work done in the ring nor by any other measure does Cotto owe a rematch to Rockgloves. I don't consider that "loss" a knock against Cotto and feel he has nothing to "avenge". He can go about his career and ignore the known cheat, denying him the payday he so richly does not deserve.

Why do you think Cotto was so hesitant to plant and throw against Rockgloves, more and more as the fight went on? Here's something to think about: Would you try to avoid being hit at all costs - moreso than usual - if you had rocks coming back at you? Probably, and in that case, you'd be unable to get your own offense off - moreso than you're usually able to.

So, Cotto was unable to get his own offense going since he was in all likelihood facing illegal weapons coming back at him. Even with a slow plodder like Rockgloves, that is something to consider.

 

Well, booradley doesn't have a handle on the situation, it would seem.

 

In what universe does losing to Pacquiao make someone ineligible to take a big fight right away afterwards? Pacquiao is the second best fighter in the world, pound for pound. If you think losing to the best means going to the back of the line, you're sorely mistaken.

 

Cotto fans... just remember this, even if they rematch and for some reason Miguel defeats Tony (which he won't).

It still don't change fight #1. So get over it.

Did you catch Cotto doing a lot of retreating vs Mosley(towards the end of the fight)? And to some extent against Pac and Clottey.

I guess all of them were wearing "rockgloves" too

 

How about Cotto getting a shot at a vacant title against Jennings (who?) after being beat by Margo??

Oh and last time i checked, Pacquiao is # 1 in the world.

 

And even if Margarito wins the rematch, that still won't stop him from being labeled the Luis Resto of his generation.

 

1. What we can say for sure is that Rockgloves, even with his slow, plodding punches, seemed to be causing Cotto quite a bit more trouble than even the sharp punching Pacquiao and quick fisted Mosley (in a fight Cotto won, by the way).

2. If you draw this conclusion, you don't have a grasp on reality.

 

i agree with this. he was almost walking into cottos punching without flinching, i dont think he realises what long term damage that has done. his punch resistence now is nowwhere near where it was before
