Do you think a fighter deserves the title of "world class" once he or she wins a abc belt? For me it depends on the fighter, if I truely consider he or she world class, BUT I will refer to them as such, generally with "" due to the fact it's kinda by default. For the most part I consider a fighter truely world class once they have carried The Ring title at one point. Thoughts?
By definition. You cannot be not considered a world class fighter if you have a world championhip belt.
I understand that by default, once you have an abc belt youre a "World" champ. But I mean your own individual thought about it, do you think no matter who the fighter, if they manage to annex a abc title, should they automatically get the title of "World" champion? Or should they have to have The Ring belt, or should they just have to beat a certain amount of high ranked fighters?
Definitely depends on the fighter. Would anyone consider David Diaz a world class fighter?.. and yet he managed to snag the WBC lightweight world title. All that just reveals how much of a joke titles are these days. No one should be given the title on 'champion' unless they're at the very least a world class fighter at the B level and above.
Good example. I completely respect Diaz as a fighter. But I never considered him truely world class, although he did have a "world" title. But we all know that once Diaz stepped in against a truely world class opponent there was no competition, only heart in Diaz's favor. If anything I generally stick to The Ring title, although it's become pretty much "the peoples" champ because it isn't a recognized sactioning body in record books, it is better than handing out 5 titles per sactioning body per weight class. Meaning for the most part, if you have The Ring title you must be world class and fighting or have fought, the best of a division.
Hell, "World class" can mean anything. If I was training in the same gym as a guy ranked even from #10-#20 in their weight division, I would probably think of them as "world class" fighters.
