No Way Arguello Beats Sanchez

Sanchez UD, too much speed, skills and movement. You never know if Arguello is just going to clean a man's clock, because Sanchez doesn't have the greatest defense

 

I suggest you watch more of his fights if you've never seen him stunned, as I've seen quite a few instances myself. The straight punching of Arguello could give him major troubles down the stretch, the way I see it. Not to mention, Sanchez was never a pure boxer. He was an excellent counter-puncher against certain types, while made to look less than extraordinary against others. Arguello was really neither type, so it'd really come down to how Sanchez deals with his power and straight shots down the pike. I don't see anyone being able to take too many flush shots from Arguello at 130, and believe you me Sanchez would be eating a lot once Alexis had found his groove.

An early points lead for Sanchez probably, depending on how Arguello decided to push the pace. However, I'd probably favor Alexis down the stretch, either by taking the later rounds for a decision or, dare I say it, a late stoppage if he can find the mark often enough. Would've been a dream matchup, for certain.

 

I dont see it imo. Arguello had one of the greatness jabs ever, Sal is not going to beat Arguello easy. I see it a close contest, with Arguello winning on points in the end.

Outside of Arguello's last bouts or so, I dont think any one gave him a close tought fight.

 

Well that's not true at all.

 

Most of the Arguello fights I have are pretty much one sided boxing shows on the part of Arguello, I dont recall too many wars for the most part.

 

Olivares and Marcel stand out, but mostly his title defences were straight forward.

 

Outside of the two you mentioned, obviously Fernandez stands out, considering he lost. Also: Boza-Edwards, Ganigan (short though it may've been), Ramirez (arguably a loss, albeit in another 10 rounder), Castillo, Mancini, Chacon, Hernandez, etc. All excellent fights, all quite close, or at least involving a lot of ebb and flow/exposing some of Arguello's weaknesses.

You could say the same of a lot of Sanchez's early/later fights, though. Both great fighters, but far from perfect.

Summed it up nicely, except the decision. Alexis stops him. If Little Red could land on Sal, you can bet your house Alexis would.

 

Sanchez was more fleet than Arguello ever was, but Arguello owned better one-punch power between 126 to 135 pounds..... I do see Sanchez winning a decision on points.... Arguello too slow and a step off against Sanchez.....

No he couldn't, because he didn't box in the same manner as Fernandez. On top of which, the best Fernandez's slickness ever got him was a close, debatable split decision, and he was only able to pull it off once.

 

Since when was Sanchez the speedy side to side mover?

As for Arguello's punches not having an effect, when was Sanchez tagged by possibly the hardest 130 puncher ever? Taking the smaller Gomez bombs, and even those of Lopez are sure not akin to wearing Arguello's best at 130.

I like Arguello at 130, he peaked there and had many many strengths.
