im thinking along these lines. i also had hopes that mccloskey would amount to something really good but when i think about it ive been thinking that for about 3 years. his career has stagnated badly and as you point out the injuries cant have helped. khan probably has too much energy for him at this point. having said that, people seemed to forget khan rushing in against paulie, square on throwing straight left rights, prime for a heavy counter which is exactly what paul does well. in all seriousness though this fight isnt ever going to happen anyway. as for the thread, classic forum stuff. someone has a decent win ie khan and is now the 2nd coming of ray leonard and someone else has a bad night and is now complete ****, everything they have ever done isnt worth a jot mccloskey is a good fighter, a entertaining slick fighter but his conditioning his style bending to the side with one glove up which leads to sometimes taking flush punches and his tendancy to be drawn into a scrap mean he wont win a world title imo. its a shame because they are all arguably fixable
Paul looked unusually poor in this fight and was the first to admit this, though he pulled a brilliant punch out when it mattered and got the ko...he'll learn from this fight and improve, I honestly believe that on good form he'd easily beat Khan, and even fighting as badly as he did against Lauri, if he connected either the uppercut in the 2nd round or the peach in the 11th round it would be lights out for Amir.
I reckon any pro boxer of note, not neccesarily a top guy or a big puncher, but any name fighter, could have knocked out in similar style an average opponent who wasnt paying attention. That KO didnt indicate that McCloskey is a big puncher, only that he is sharp enough to snap up an oppertunity against a totally unprepared opponent. He wouldnt get that oppertunity against Khan. Khan beats him easily, decent operator though McClosky is. I wouldnt rule out a very early demolition job like Salita, Earl or ***an.
no. not on khans level. nowhere near. if it was a streetfight then maybe. his technique is average at best. the ko punch was telegraphed it was all arm. lauri should have seen it coming a mile off.
i think the reason it looked a bit telegraphed from some of the angles in the the replay is that it was a right hook from a southpaw [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5FbpLu5MtMk[/ame] he had his hands up and was watchin McCloskey, just couldnt seem to react to it quick enough that would put Khan out cold
we'll see when Pauls higher up in the rankings, i think he'll fight Khan within a year...Khan'll be seeing stars that night

You honestly think that Khan will fight McCloskey within 12 months? There is no money whatsoever in that fight. He looked good against an out of sorts and head ****ed Lynes and struggled with a man who both Witter and Hatton had for breakfast when Lauri wasn't an old man and all of a sudden he is ready for a world title shot?
He destroyed Lynes, who was an ex world champion. To be fair McCloskey (30) is close to Lauris age (34), and Lauri was trying a lot harder this time round, he fought too long as an amatuer in my opnion. He is more deserving of a World Title shot than Khan was, and I feel he could beat Khan.
