how much more would calzaghe have to do to get the respect he deserves?

Wrong again there. Calzaghe beat Jones when Jones was a Ring top 10 LHW in the LHW division. Green beat Jones in the CW division a division Jones had never fought in.
But agree a prime DM would most likely have beaten Gonzalez, though take nothing away from Gonzalez for a good away win

The fact that Jones was in The Ring lhw top 10 means absolutely nothing.

Anyone who had seen him fight over the previous 4-5 years and/or anyone who had followed his career and the careers of his opponents over that time period knew for certain that he was, undoubtedly and unarguably, more shot to smithereens than Sonny Corleone was in Godfather One. If ever there was an utterly worthless and meaningless victory, it was Calzaghe-Jones. The End.

Yeah and Hopkins as Ring LHW champ didnt fight a single LHW top 10 opponent or a LHW for that matter, but still Calzaghe did

For people to still pick RJJ to beat calzaghe could either mean.

    1. People thought RJJ was in his prime
    2. People thought Calzaghe was ****
    3. People just hated the fact RJJ was shot, and would have beaten the **** out of Calzaghe in his prime, and just didnt like to say 'I think Calzaghe wins'

Most people thought number 2 and 3. Im sure no one thought number 1.

And this happens many times, people thought Tyson would roll back the years and beat Lennox. People thought Mosley would roll back the years and beat Mayweather, its all pre fight hype.

No knowledgable boxing fan thought RJJ would beat Calzaghe in 2008

Being born with a US passport would have sealed the deal.

I am not talking about Johnson fighting Calzaghe... I am talking about Calzaghe fighting Chad Dawson, and that just because Dawson struggled with a fighter like Johnson, would not take away from a Calzaghe victory over Dawson.

And herein lies the ultimate problem, people end up talking utter **** simply because they dislike a boxer or like a boxer. The boxers themselfs are hardly ever the problem, stubborn bias (both ways) fans are.
