It sounds reasonable some of these heavy weights are like giants compare to the shorter heavy weights, so a SHW division sounds about right.
This. Adding a new division would devalue the past glory of the HWs.... On second thought, perhaps it may enhance the legends? These old timers fought anyone at any weight, thus making them greater P4P literally, but those who would fight in HW or SHW in the future would have less recognition due to more champs, paper champs, and belts.
Yes. Of course, the purists will never want an additional HW division. But you watch the Klits fights guys so much smaller than them and it's just a joke. It's like Bernard Hopkins fighting Juan Diaz. A mismatch. But i think in the end, it would hurt the sport more than help it so i'm pretty sure it won't happen.
No. The idea is that todays heavyweights are bigger than their past counterparts. To a certain extent this is true. However it is not as tru as we might think. Take away Ridick Bowe, Lenox Lewis and the Brothers Klitchko, and most heavyweights are around 6'2" 215-225 Lbs. While that is bigger than some of the past heavyweights like Rocky Marciano and Jack Dempsy. It is not that much bigger than the likes of Mahumaid Ali and Joe Louis. Another thing to consider is that the heavyweight division has a history to it. Another thing is while we'd probbly agree that 6'5" 250 lbs is a super heavyweight. What about 6'5" 200 lbs or 6'0" 250 lbs?
Well it is heavyWEIGHT. So, the 250 pounder would most likey be a fatass at that height and he would be a SHW.
Now let just say this! How many smaller Heavyweights are going to have to get a battering against Heavyweights like the Klitschkos, before a change is made?
Heavyweights size wise like the Klitschkos- like Lennox Lewis was. Where you complaining about Lennox's size when he was fighting? I don't think so.
speed speed speed, footwork, boxing skills. guys like David Haye, Tomasz Adamek, Odlanier Solis (if he losses overweight) could outpoint clearly the robot style of Vitali.
absolutely.. The Klitchkos and Lennox and even Foreman benefitted from being bigger. 230 and up being super heavyweight would be great.
There are advantages and disadvantages between two fighters with a vast height difference. Small fighters have the advantages on the inside - therefore a skilled small inside fighter can run through bigger men if he's trained in the art - ala Tyson, Samuel Peter, Joe Frazier etc Whereas bigger fighters hold the advantages on the outside Lennox Lewis, Wlad Klit etc That adds to the intrigue of heavyweight boxing what you are suggesting is that we should only match people against others of their exact same physical attributes which would of rendered fighters like Mike Tyson obsolete. We never would of had that phenomenal knock out reel of his early career.
no to SHW division. it's like telling the already fat ****ers that they can get bigger...it won't take off at all.
