Currently the WBA has two featherweight champions and one interim champion.

WBA "Super" World Featherweight Champion - Chris John
WBA World Featherweight Champion - Yuriorkis Gamboa
WBA interim Featherweight Champion - Celestino Caballero

Now the WBA rules state they can reward the Super Championship to a fighter if the unify with another belt holder, and then introduce a regular title, this never happend and the funny thing is now there regular champion Gamboa's next fight is a unification.

The WBA rules state they will introduce an interim champion when the usual champion is unable to fight due to injury. When Gamboa won the interim title in April 2009, Chris John had fought in february. When Gamboa was upgraded to full champion in October 2009, John had a fight in September 2009.

When Celestino Caballero became intertim champion in April 2010, Gamboa had a fight the month prior, and Chris John has one scheduled for July 2010.

To be honest I would have no problem with any of this if the 3 of the actually faced eachother in the ring.

ya i have no idea what any of this means. i still dont even know what an interim champ is.

  3. The WBA is a joke. The oldest and once respected organisation responds to the ever growing number of world titles by creating even more for purely financial reasons.

    What a bunch of tossers.

Caballero is not the interim champ. His promotor didn't want to pay the sanctioning fees, and there was no representative from the WBA at his fight. Eduardo Escobedo or Francisco Cordero will become the interim champ soon however, they have a fight in June for the interim WBA title. Its getting ridiculous.:patsch

federations are a joke fullstop. judge a fighter by his achievements in the ring - not if he's a 'world champion'.

I have no respect for a company that gives John Ruiz 4 title shots in a decade that has him losing six times.

The WBA has like 31 'champions' in only 17 weight classes.:rofl:patsch

    That belt is essentially worthless.

the WBA was used to strip their regular world champions when they unified with a beltholder other than the WBA super champion.
seems theres an exception for standout Gamboa

Problem with that is, it's impossible. "World titles" are used to measure a fighters achivements, whether that is in terms of how many they themselves have won, or how many their opponents have. I'd love to get rid of all the Alphabetty's, they are contributing to the decline of boxing, but as things are right now, the sport probably can't do without them either. :verysad
