I stand corrected

I know it's late but I've only just found a decent copy of the foreman vs cotto fight.

Before the fight I spoke clearly of how I thought foreman would win the fight. Not because I thought foreman was a much better fighter hes not I just thought miguel would find it impossible to come back after the beatings hes taken and the wars he's been in. He hasnt gone to the body consistently, hes been very flat footed and been throwing arm punches in his recent fights.

I was happy to be proved wrong. Offensively I thought it was the best cotto we've seen sinc emaybe the judah fight. The variation was there his combinations were fluid, he hooked and uppercutted off the jab beautifully, went to the body in a way thats been lost in his previous fights and he even made the right hand a factor in the fight. Defensively himself and steward still have a way to go before you can justify throwing him back in at the deep end but I think another one or two fights we'll see that improve too.

I was happy to be proved wrong and very much look forward to seeing cotto in his future fights. This serving of crow wasnt quite as bad

 

What I noticed is that Cotto knocked Forman back halfway across the ring with the first jab he landed. You gotta question Foreman's punch resistance.

 

Or maybe we are underestimating Cotto's jab which knocked down Clottey.

 

i dont think you need to question foremans resistance he stood and traded with cotto after he did his knee and took some big shots then he went backwards cos he was off balance when he got hit with that jab

It was very refreshing to see Cotto back looking good again. He even finished off with some of that old Cotto mojo with the left hook. Im very happy to see him looking so good

 

I think alot of people were premature in presuming Cotto had suffered some sort of irreversible damage just because he got beaten up a few times. Look how much needless damage referees used to let the fighters of old take in a fight and a lot of them still went on to be great for a long time.

I think people are premature in assuming a win over Foreman has much significance in the big picture. Foreman isn't Williams, Martinez, Pac, Floyd, etc., etc. Cotto still has a serious uphill battle in front of him.

 

Cotto has a nasty, hard jab, plus great timing when an opponent is out of position. He hurt Clottey with it, he hurt Foreman with it, and has used it as a cruel weapon in most of his fights. When he stops using it, that's when he struggles.

 

Yup, he stopped using it in the fourth round against Foreman and he lost that round. Manny told him to get back to his jab and he started using it again in the 5th.
