Honestly, how much footage of Bellew have you seen to base your judgement that he is "too slow...not dynamic enough and his power is way over-rated"?

 

Bellew and Groves are in the exact same point in there careers. They have severall wins over sub par British and European journeyman, a win each over a decent European. Adamu is better than Atoli Moore who Bellew beat for the same level title around the same time. Difference is Groves did it in a year less than Bellew and in 4 less fights.

 

I think im somewhere in the middle with this argument. I definitely think that we have some great prospects and warren undoubtedly has the best thats not even an argument. Some of these prospects will fall by the wayside some will go on and achieve great things.

The problem is it is impossible to tell because of their relative inactivity. Prospects need to fight 15 fights in their 1st 2 years at least especially with the opposition they are facing. We just dont see enough to make a proper judgement I love Bellew but we havent seen him enough to say how will he react if xyz happens.

End of the day some of the prospects mentioned may be highly overrated but others may come on stronger than expected, look at Hatton many who saw his early fights would not have thought he would have reached the heights he did

 

Stephen i rate as the number 1 prospect in the country he could be a p4p fighter. His 2 brothers are **** poor. I hear the youngest brother is decent though.

Stephen Smith is good; but World champ? I'm not certain he'll even make the World stage, despite how decent he looks.

 

Again, he is another prospect I haven't seen much of so I'm not going to jump the gun with him. After the Simpson fight (if it still goes ahead), then I will be able to make a better judgement. Same with Bellew, I rate him highly but I'm not going to start saying he will be a potential world champion until I see how he deals with a fighter than can test him.

With the level of opposition they are facing they need to be fighting every six to eight weeks for the first two years.

If they are only fighting four/five times, some of the so-called prospects need to be facing each other.

Like Dan-B said yesterday and Tony Bellew sort of hinted at in another thread, our domestic scene is dying on it's feet because fights aren't happening for one reason or another.

Not every fighter can progress to the world stage, being British or European level is an achievement that boxers should be proud of..... but please, the titles need to be retained rather than passed around like confetti.

If Warren can't get Bellew an opponent, he needs to raise the stakes, offer more money up.... get him a slot on a card in America.... something!

It's too easy to say, ''oh bad luck, we tried our best'' - not good enough. Sort it!

Make the fights and TV will be interested. Simple as that.

 

Tony can you really claim that Warren is the best promoter in the country. this year he has only put on 3 shows and there was only 2 50-50 fights on them (Cleverly vs Brancolion and Smith vs Quigley). He let his number 1 fighter go into a world title fight under prepared because he had not face anyone inside the top 25.

would you really want to go into your world title fight having not even been to European level?? Gavins and DeGale are moving backwards in there careers they are at least a year a way from a domestic title fight.
