just thinking, after going up to 200, did anythink think roy was gunna have to murder himself to lose that weight.

i dunno what jones immediate plan was or how quickly he lost the weight but surely common sense would have said atleast 1 more hw fight or go down to cruiserweight

even if he only lost like 12 pounds of muscles and 13 pounds of dehydrating, thats still crazy

not sure if people r still buying into it anymore though cuz roy had been using it as an excuse for poor performances, even if it was more of a reason than excuse

It would have taken too much to keep him around 200.

Going up to Heavyweight and winning a belt and then moving back straight away to fight for Light-heavyweight Titles is a amazing feat

Going back to LHW in itself wasn't a bad idea, he was a ****ing great LHW, but doing it so fast murdered his career and body.

He should have taken fights/titles at cruiser and got progressively ligheter until he was back at LHW. Or at least slimmed down over a year or something.

Then again Roy is/was very ego-driven so when he gets an idea in his head he goes for it. He obviously really wanted to 1. beat Tarver and 2. get his titles back.

Yes, it was crazy so fast, and an insane feat.

That win gets underrated because he looked human for the first time and was overshadowed by getting knocked out right after.

For all you boxing historians, how many fighters can you name that drop from heavyweight to LHW and reclaim the title in your very next fight?

It was not smart to do so fast, but Antonio Tarver got under his skin and called him out, so he felt he had to do it, it was certainly not in his plans.

Roy obviously was not weight drained in the second Tarver fight, I don't use that as an excuse, but I do feel it was very possible that the sudden weight drop at the age of 34 that permanently diminished Roy's reflexes a little bit, reflexes that he pretty much based his whole style on, and even the slightest decrease in reflexes find Roy Jones wide open for a counter, someone who did not bother with basic fundamentals.

There are a lot of threads on the weight issue. Yes, Roy has a tremendous commitment to physical fitness. You can count on one finger the number of people in history who could drop down from Heavyweight to meet Tarver at Light Heavyweight and beat him.

At the time I thought it was stupid because he did it for Tarver. That was a dumbass move he should've made Tarver come up to heavy or cruiser to fight him. I will never understand this. There was wayyy better fights to be made at heavy...

No but people seem to say it was a mistake NOW. You know, because he got knocked out a few times:lol:

I don't remember anyone saying it was a mistake at the time on the other forums I post on. How long has this place been active by the way?
