Would you like to tell me how that is going to pan out then Billy?, Fighters who cannot sell out a venue near their home city (Preston) will not be fighting for a world title in 18months, i can assure you of that.
I am not saying its his talent level that will stop him doing well, but his level of opposition and not fighting enough at this stage of his career. Warren has some of the best prospects in the country and he is ****ing them up as they fight soft opponents every 6 months. Number of a fights in there first 18 months as a pro Nigel Benn - 18 Lennox Lewis - 15 Floyd Mayweather - 17 Shane Mosley - 15 Ray Leonard - 14 Mike Tyson - 26 De La Hoya - 14 Frankie Gavin - 7 James DeGale - 7 Tony Bellew - 8 Stephen Smith - 9 Jose Benevidez will have his 7th fight June 26th. He turned pro in January. Everytime someone questions Bellews level of opposition we here the same old excuse that nobody wants to fight him................does he really think he was more avoided than Tyson and Nigel Benn??? Ricky Burns your top fighter is going into a world title fight this year we hope coming of one 8 rounder in a year, agaisnt a journeyman. He has never had a fight beyond domestic level. Surley you cannot be happy about this. Stephen Smith for me is the number 1 prospect in the country but he will not get past John Simpson as he has not been active enough and is under prepared for Johns level.
Funny thing is a lot of the guys in low weights wont even spar Choi anymore. If you're not prepared to spar a fighter above domestic level how are you going to deal with world class? I see Munroe (if it happens), Booth and Burns all getting knocked out. The step up between soft domestic/european level is so vast now. Guys like Honeyghan had real tough fights at that level. Even a weight-drained Curry would have knocked out Honeyghan in a couple of rounds cos he would have gone in after 18 easy wins over bums.
I don't understand why guys like Tony (who seems a great guy on here and I hear only positive about him) don't go to America for 6 months, train out there and have 4 fights in that time. Its not like he'd be on stupid money that Degale and Gavin is.
Fair enough. A couple of months at a time then with 2 fights in this period. Haye did that fighting and sparring in Miami.
Its such a shame that people come on here and just write off the chance of young guys who've only had a handful of fights. Why say Ronnie Heffron is too young to be a pro? I've seen him spar up close and watched him fight live and the kid is one of the most exciting talents I've ever seen. Maybe it's a British thing, but why not get behind these guys that are working hard and trying to make something of themselves. I can't imagine Mexicans saying Barrera or Saul Alvarez were too young to be pros. And, hey, time will tell for these guys like Bellew and Groves and Ste Smith. That's what's exciting about seeing them coming through - learning the intangibles, the answers to questions we can't know till they're in certain fights. But hold your horses writing them off before they've started. I remember seeing Froch come through on the BBC back in the day and I dont mind admitting that while I liked his style I never thought he'd cut it at the top level. How wrong I was, he became WBC champ and has been in some superb fights. I would like to see FW's prospects fighting more often though.
Heffron is far too young to be a pro boxer, he needed to stay am a little longer possibly up to the age of 21, get a bit more experience and he would of had loads more fights at a much higher level. He is hardly fighting and that doesn't look like it will change.
Haye was also on southbeach meeting american girls racking up a hall of fame tally. if Bellew doesnt have a family, he needs to get out to US pronto
he makes the weight with a week to spare that he wants to make. Dean and Arnie tell him when he's not fighting for a title his opponents will come in a few pounds over so bellew also comes in a couple of pounds over. He is around 12-8 12-9 with a week to spare. As I said His opponents have no intention of making 12-7 coz there where no titles on the line so why the he'll should he???? Hope that answers your question
look don't try and talk to me like I am stupid. I unerstand why a fighter comes in a few pounds over, but your the one that said he makes light heavy every fight which wasnt the case. whats your thoughts on Bellew not fighting enough? a fighter like Groves is ahead of him after a year less as a pro.
First of all mate get your facts right! Don't put words into peoples mouths. I said bellew always makes the weight comfortably. I never said the champion ship limit, he makes the weight what he is asked and is supposed to make we both know very few fighters come in on the limit if no titles at stake. He makes 12-7 the correct way I'm not saying he does it **** easy but with a full week to go he will only be a pound maybe 2 over how Many other fighters can say that? As for bellew getting out much, this year he has only been out once so far but that will change by next month. And then he will be fighting not so long after that. He has fought on average around 4-5 fights a year with the exception of this year, so it's not a great tally but there are far far more boxes with inactivity than that, groves has done well since turning pro getting out as much as he as but how many other fighters can say that? If you compare the average pro. (who are not journey men) he is at the top end of the scale.
