how much more would calzaghe have to do to get the respect he deserves?

You mean the person who he fought and beat dispite injuring his hand in very early rounds? If its one im remembering he fought almost the whole fight with just one hand.

Calzaghe is not undefeated (see the Robin Reid fight), but I'll say that Carl Froch has been shameless in calling him out. Froch is only 5 years younger than Calzaghe. So where on earth was Carl when Joe was champion? It's not Calzaghe's fault that Froch started so late and only became a contender when Calzaghe was 37 and ready to retire at a higher weight division.

Who lefthook, and what should he have done to make the fight happen. Saying should have fought someone better doesnt give any insight at all into how that could have been achieved

Love the way people can say 'Calzaghe lost to Reid' now as if it's undisputed fact, when even Reid thought he lost the fight at the time

if you read my later post i said that the fight with jones in his prime would not have gone so smoothly. i was just debating with someone who thought joe looked **** against him, which wasn't the case.

So far the ones trying to defend joe or give a balanced view are offering full opinions, the only ones using quick he wud of lost to any1 or shud ov fought betta ppl reasons are the haters. Surely someone who doesnt like him or his career can give a non insultive reasoned view on what he should have done better.

I think his fans rate him too high.

I used to hate the guy but after Lacy and Kessler I had to give him respect for cleaning out a division, even though his slapping style was amatuerish he still did became the main man in the SMW division.

But when people want to call him a top 60 ATG and argue he has a better record than BHop or RJJ thats taking it far.

If you look at his top 5 wins, it doesnt have a KO win there, and Calzaghe has a 70% KO ratio, and his best KO was against Byron Mitchell or Mario Veit. Any HOF from history that has a 50% KO ratio probably has KO wins including in his best wins.

Eubank UD - good performance from Calzaghe, but this win dont mean he can be called a top level ATG. Eubank was weight drained taking the fight at 2 weeks notice, and was training to fight at a weight class higher LHW, against Mark Prince. Also Eubank wasnt in his prime, and no one can deny that.

Lacy UD - One of the best shut outs of last decade, and Calzaghe went against the Odds something a great fighter has to do against a great fighter. But if Lacy was so great how comes Lacy's best win is over a shot Reid, and a shot Pemberton? And when Lacy stepped up to a top level fight he got banged up. So can Lacy be called a top class fighter when Lacy has never been able to hang in there with Top class fighters.

Kessler UD - Kessler is his best win, no doubt Kessler was considered his toughest opposition even though Calzaghe was favorite. It was a good performance against a fighter in his prime. Not to big Kessler up too much though because he got schooled by Ward, and struggled against Froch. And Ward and Froch aswell as Calzaghe and Beyer is the toughest opposition Kessler had.

Hopkins SD - Win against one of the best of this era. He beat the LHW ring champ. But dont forget SD against a fighter everyone was saying should have retired in 2005. Not only that but getting floored and then not taking a rematch in your own hometown. I gave Calzaghe and Hopkins 6 rounds each.

Reid SD - SD against Reid being in your top 5 wins. There is nothing wrong with that but when you want to call Calzaghe the GOAT and he has reid in his top 5 wins then obviously Calzaghe is being over rated.

Based on his top 5 wins, I wont call him an ATG, hes an HOF'er but not an ATG.

Ive posted on this before but another thing Joe could have done is go for the stoppage more.Too often he would make hard work of guys he should have stopped.Starie springs to mind,it was a huge chance for Joe to showcase himself.I was in the arena and can clearly remeber the boo`s and foot stamping from about 5 rounds onwards.

Agreed, same vs Jones. Should have stopped messing about and dancing and crap and just finished him off.

If he had of stepped up sooner, he wouldnt have done what he set out to do which was win all the SMW belts
